6th graders from across the city have been working hard on their applications to join BTNY, and the final round is an interview to help us evaluate the potential fit with the program. Volunteers will work in pairs to get to know students and their families, learning about their journeys and how they approach different scenarios.

To volunteer in this capacity, you will (1) Select an Admissions Day Training Date and 2) Select an Admissions Day Volunteering Date:

1) Admissions Day Training Dates (Virtual)

  • Saturday, March 26 from 10am - 11:30am
  • Tuesday, March 29 from 6pm - 7:30pm
  • Saturday, April 2 from 10am - 11:30am
  • Wednesday, April 6 from 6pm - 7:30pm
2) Admissions Day Volunteering Dates (In-Person - Subject to change)
  • Brooklyn: Saturday, April 9 at Liberty Avenue Middle School, 350 Linwood Street, Brooklyn, 11208
  • Manhattan: Saturday, April 23 at The Town School, 540 East 76th Street, Manhattan, 10021
  • Bronx: Saturday, April 30 at All Hallows High School, 111 East 164th Street, Bronx, 10452 (blocks away from Yankee Stadium)
Each Admissions Day has two shift options:
  • Morning/AM: 8am - 1pm
  • Afternoon/PM: 12:30pm - 5:30pm
  • Volunteers can sign up for one or both!
NOTE: All volunteers will be required to provide proof of full Covid-19 vaccination and booster shot (if eligible) in order to participate. All volunteers will have to wear a mask at the in-person events as well.

ROLE OVERVIEW
  • Working in pairs, volunteers will interview applicants and their families (separately)
  • Breakthrough New York will provide an interview guide of questions to ask, as well as a rubric with which to evaluate responses
  • Each shift will have two rounds of applicants and their families

REQUIREMENTS

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 18
  • Orientation or Training
  • One 90 minute virtual training on Zoom. Each volunteer shift is five hours.
  • All volunteers must provide proof of being up to date on their Covid-19 vaccination, meaning they have received a full course of the vaccine and a booster shot of eligible. All volunteers, students, and families will wear masks throughout the event.
