Volunteer Title: Volunteer Greeter, at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center.
Reports to: Andrea Ricard, Volunteer Coordinator
Position Description:
The Volunteer Greeter will join a dedicated team working to provide outstanding volunteers that welcome visitors to Five Rivers. Stationed at the desk just inside the main door to the Visitor’s Center, the greeter is often the first-person visitors encounter upon entering the building. Greeters are the face of the Center and of Friends of Five Rivers, often answering questions, suggesting appropriate trails, providing directions, and establishing a positive and welcoming experience for all.
Some visitors may be interested in learning more about Friends of Five Rivers - how to join, how the membership fees are used, and how to volunteer. The Greeter is responsible for answering their questions and providing them with a membership form; encourage them to become members.
Responsibilities:
· Greet visitors as they enter the building
· Answering the phones, take messages for staff
· Sell Bookstore items
· Keep the Greeter desk neat and organized
· Keep maps and brochures available to visitors
· Occasional tasks such as brochure folding
· Keep tally sheets as needed
· Loan out items such as binoculars
· Assist with snowshoes rentals
· Assist with various administrative and other duties, as assigned.
Time Commitment:
· This volunteer position has flexible 4 hours shifts, 6 days a week during the hours of 9:00 -4:30 p.m. Monday - Saturday.

· Completion of Friends of Five Rivers Volunteer Application

Mission Statement
The mission of Friends of Five Rivers is to support environmental education at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center as well as to enhance the experience of visitors to Five Rivers and to promote the interests of the Center. Five Rivers is a citizens’ support group supporting Five Rivers Environmental Education Center in Delmar, New York. Friends was incorporated as Five Rivers Limited in 1972 when the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation converted the Delmar Game Farm into Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. The Center and property are owned and operated by the New York Sate Department of Environmental Conservation. In partnership, the two organizations work together to provide visitors with an educational experience.

Friends of Five Rivers provides a variety of volunteer opportunities that support the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. From the friendly Center greeter at the welcome desk, to the instructor teaching a lesson to a third grade class for the Guided School Program, to special event volunteer filing orders at the Annual Birdseed Sale, or a hospitality volunteer providing refreshments at the Fall Festival - they all make up the team of volunteers with Friends of Five Rivers.
