Looking for an easy way to help those in need? Look no further! The families staying at Bridges to Independence's shelter are in need of items that would make the shelter feel more like home, especially during this disruptive time.
The families have been spending the majority of their days at the shelter due to Covid-19 and, as such, Bridges is trying to ensure families have all they need to feel at home. Bridges needs your help in doing this! You are given much freedom as to how you want to collect the items on the list, so feel free to do what makes you feel most comfortable.
You will be securing urgent items for our families in need. We have a shopping list of suggested items that you will receive. These items can be obtained while you shop at home via Amazon Smile, Target delivery, or any service you use; you can also grab some of these items while you’re out doing your own shopping; or you can organize your own socially distant drive in your neighborhood and bring the items you receive to our shelter. The list will reflect the current needs of our shelter during this disruptive time.
If you have a drop off to do, we have social distance friendly bins outside of our shelter. All you have to do is put your donations in the bins and then call the number on the bin to let our shelter staff know a drop off has been made. If you have any questions, please email Celeste at cmckenzie@bridges2.org to get more information!

About Bridges To Independence

Mission Statement
Bridges to Independence leads individuals and families out of homelessness and into stable, independent futures. We offer a continuum of aid and support for all family members, helping them attain financial security and move forward into self-sufficiency. A private, nonprofit organization, Bridges has been working with and for families experiencing homelessness since 1985, when we were founded as the Arlington-Alexandria Coalition for the Homeless.
Description
In a nutshell, "what we do" is build bridges to independence for homeless families and families at risk of becoming homeless. Our bridges - our services - strengthen these families and provide them with the stability, skills, knowledge, and community networks to become self-sufficient. We offer supports for every family member - adults and children alike. Our short-term goal is to help individual clients right now. Long-term, we aim to break the inter-generational cycle of poverty by preparing today’s struggling kids to be tomorrow’s successful adults. From housing to financial literacy, from tutoring to youth development, from life skills to career counseling, we tailor a continuum of services. Some activities are required, some are optional, and some are just plain fun.
