Dear friends of Elderberry Wisdom Farm,

Greetings to each of you! Some of you have volunteered out here at our Farm in the past year or two so I'm checking in to say hello on this winter day. I trust you are staying well and safe.

We made a lot of progress at the farm the past two years, mostly thanks to our amazing group of volunteers. Two years ago, we potted over 800 Native plants in our temporary greenhouse and they were planted on the property along a 350 foot hedgerow along the road and in our forested area over the past two years.

A year ago, we potted 1,000 new Native plant starts and are preparing to open our Native American Plant Nursery LLC in 2024. They are an awesome group of plant starts: Pacific Dogwood, Blue Elderberry, Thimbleberry, Oregon Grape, and others.

This February we will be potting another 500 Native plant starts and appreciate volunteers helping us get the plants into our pots.

We are also building our raised garden beds and our recessed garden beds in our new two-acre Native Plant Nursery site. That info is below

UPCOMING VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES:

Help is needed for the next two months this winter as we build a long raised garden bed for Native plant species.

We are also tending our Blue Elderberry patch. We will remove weeds around the base of the bushes and add some compost around the two dozen plants that have survived the past two years of drought and freezing temps. We will also tend our hedgerow, perhaps do some blackberry removal and other light work around the farm.

Our farm has now welcomed one new Habitat Restoration and Plant Nursery Coordinator, Shannon Chinook. She will be working with our volunteers this winter.

Please feel free to email Shannon at shannon@elderberrywisdom.org if you have questions. She is looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks, Rose
