Are you passionate about education and want to serve as a role model? Become an online volunteer tutor today and support a child experiencing homelessness. Due to their transient lifestyles, many of these children miss months of school at a time. Help a student get back on track by tutoring them one hour a week.
We believe that education is key to breaking the cycle of homelessness. Our goal is to shrink the gaps in our students’ learning and provide them with the highest level of education possible. Tutoring serves as a consistent support system for our students during a time of great stress and fear.
All tutoring sessions are currently virtually; therefore, reliable internet and video/audio chat are required.
Volunteers are asked to commit 1 hour a week for a year; tutoring usually happens on weekdays between 3 pm-7 pm. We provide in-depth training and ongoing support to all our tutors.

Since 1993, School on Wheels' mission has never wavered: to enhance educational opportunities for children who are experiencing homelessness from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Our goal is to shrink the gaps in their learning and provide them with the highest education level possible. Our program serves as a consistent support system for our students during a time of great stress and fear.
To learn more about School on Wheels and apply to become a volunteer, please visit our website and complete the online application. You will have the opportunity to select times and days when you are available. You can also select the age of students to tutor and subjects you are comfortable tutoring. You will watch a one-hour orientation and participate in an online tutor training. Before tutoring, applicants also complete a background check, including two references and a livescan (fingerprinting).
After you are trained and begin tutoring your student, you will have continuing support from a Volunteer Coordinator and regular opportunities to participate in workshops.
We'll work with your schedule.
