Volunteer Description:
The Empowerment Factory is partnering with The United Way of Rhode Island to bring you a fun and safe volunteer opportunity folding paper Peace Cranes!

Write your hopes and dreams for the "new better" Rhode Island and use them to create peace cranes, folding them in the traditional style of Japanese origami. According to Japanese mythology, If you fold 1,000 cranes, your wishes will come true.

The purpose of this initiative is to share positivity and hopeful aspirations for our community. The Peace Cranes will be used to create a public art installation in January that aspires to exemplify the goal of this tradition.

Visit The Empowerment Factory's Youtube Channel to learn how to make your own Peace Cranes:

Peace Cranes can be either dropped off at The Empowerment Factory or mailed to The United Way.

Mission Statement

Creating happier, healthier more empowered people.

Description

About Us:

The Empowerment Factory (TEF) is dedicated to giving children the skills they need to lead happier, healthier lives. We focus on three areas of development: creativity, self-esteem, and civic pride. The Creative Squad programs blend hands-on activities with social emotional learning (SEL) and environmental education. Our vision is for every child to develop the confidence and ability to express themselves, while becoming actively engaged in their communities. Every child should feel that they matter and can make a difference in the world around them.

The Empowerment Factory offers programs and special events for schools, after school, organizations, libraries and youth groups that help children develop the skills they need to succeed.

It was founded by Gail Ahlers, as a nonprofit organization in April of 2014 and became a federally recognized 501(c)3 as of August 2016. Our blended learning model has positively impacted over 3700 urban youth with the creation of 34 after-school clubs and 13 summer programs, 90 percent of whom live in under-served communities.

We welcome your involvement and support. You can give your resources, volunteer your time and advocate as we work together to build a better world.
