Girls on the Run of the Bay Area

Malcolm X Girls
Girls at the Lollipop Run at Crissy Field.

Coach a team of girls to complete their first 5K! Inspire a girl to be joyful, healthy and confident!

Position: Girls on the Run is recruiting dedicated and enthusiastic coaches for the Fall 2020 season! Volunteer coaches are needed in San Francisco, Contra Costa, Alameda, Marin and San Mateo counties.

We are specifically recruiting one additional coach for our amazing squad at Corte Madera Town Center in Marin!

Time Commitment: Practices are twice a week for about 60-75 minutes. Prep time takes about two to three hours per week. GOTR will provide you with the materials and program curriculum and will train you to be an engaging and effective coach.

Qualifications: You do not need to be a runner or a competitive athlete to be a successful coach. You will serve as a role model for girls by showing up prepared and on time, listening attentively, by having a positive demeanor and outlook, and by leading a healthy lifestyle! You will encourage the girls, and coach them on proper stretching, explore emotional issues faced by girls of their age range (3rd-5th grade), and discuss the importance of nutrition and physical activity (don't worry, this will be covered in coach training!).

About Girls on the Run of the Bay Area:

Girls on the Run is an after-school running program to educate and build confidence in girls in the 3rd through 5th grades. Our program combines training for a 5K running event with uplifting workouts that encourage emotional, social, mental and physical development. We are not a typical track program as our curriculum contains 20 fun, active lessons dealing with issues such as media images, gossiping, physical health, emotional health, cooperation and community. Our 10-week program meets twice per week at a school site and is taught by three volunteer coaches who give their time and passion to a group of 15 girls. At the end of the training, the girls complete their first ever 5K distance. Girls on the Run of the Bay Area is a local chapter of a national organization, and a registered 501(c)3 non profit. Mission Statement

To educate and build confidence in young girls through quality running programs in San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin and San Mateo Counties.

Girls on the Run of the Bay Area provides after-school running programs for girls ages 8-14 in San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin and San Mateo Counties. Our innovative curriculum focuses on building self-esteem and improving physical and emotional well-being at an early age. Each session incorporates interactive, uplifting games developed to teach the girls a specific life lesson, such as the importance of healthy eating habits, learning to listen and why gossiping is a bad habit. Girls gain a better understanding of how to make healthy decisions, resolve conflict, maintain a positive attitude, build supportive relationships and cooperate in a group. We also train the girls to participate in either a one-mile or 5K (3.1 miles) event during the final week of the program.
