Circles is a long term approach that empowers participants to reach economic stability. Each week, local families that are ready, willing, and able to thrive (Circle Leaders) meet with community volunteers (Allies). The families we serve were teetering between crisis and security before the current pandemic. The economic challenges across the country will disproportionately affect these families and their road to economic stability will now be longer and more complex.

Circles RVA is seeking volunteer Allies who will build a positive and encouraging relationship with a Circle Leader. Volunteer Allies build an intentional friendship with a Circle Leader based on respect and trust. Allies support the Leader in his/her journey to meet their goals for economic stability. Allies have a unique opportunity to work closely with a family and build meaningful relationships across socio-economic, racial, and other lines that all too often divide.

The Role of an Ally
 Be an intentional friend and accountability partner
 Offer emotional support when needed
 Help their Circle Leader evaluate and clarify goals, developing manageable steps
 Share life experiences and if asked, give advice

An Effective Ally Has:
 A listening ear
 Knowledge of basic family finances
 Respects the role of the Circle Leader as the center and driver of this process

*This is currently a VIRTUAL opportunity, as Circles RVA is now meeting ONLINE on Tuesday evenings. In 2021 Circles will return to in-person weekly gatherings that include a shared meal and childcare.

About CIRCLES RVA INC

Location:

8 N LAUREL ST, RICHMOND, VA 23220, US

Mission Statement

Circles RVA empowers individuals and families to permanently move out of poverty and thrive. We create intentional relationships that expand support communities and engage the wider community to reduce or eliminate the systemic barriers that hinder people from rising out of poverty. Circles RVA's vision is for every Richmonder to have enough money, meaning, and friendship to thrive.

Description

Circles RVA is part of Circles USA, a nationally-known, proven, and innovative way of connecting people across socioeconomic lines to move people & families out of poverty. The Circles model focuses on "Circle Leaders," individuals who are ready, willing and able to move from surviving to thriving economically. Circle Leaders participate in 12 weeks of life-skills training which span an array of topics and focus on setting SMART goals. Circle Leaders emerge with specific goals for achieving economic stability. Circle Leaders are then matched with two volunteer Allies who empower the Leader in the roles of cheerleader and accountability partner.

Circles RVA provides the social network, financial tools, and emotional encouragement that activate economic growth for hard-working individuals living with poverty. Participants report increased income, improved credit scores, decreased debt, and added assets. Hear directly from our first-class of Circle Leader graduates on the Circle blog: https://circlesrva.org/leaders-voices/

Circles RVA is not merely managing life with limited resources. Instead, we are working to truly break the cycle of poverty for Richmond Families.
