First and foremost, we care about you and your safety. The American Red Cross continues to deliver critical services to your community during this health crisis, but we need people like you to join. We have a critical need for volunteers in the following areas:
Disaster Shelter Teams
Volunteers are needed to support the day-to-day activities within a disaster evacuation shelter which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information, or other areas within a shelter. Free online training will be provided. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum five consecutive days working shifts up to 12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required.
Disaster Health Services Teams
Are you a licensed healthcare professional? If so, we also have a high need for health care workers to provide assistance and healthcare to shelter residents as needed. Free online training will be provided. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4, 8 or 12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required. Licensed Required: RN, LPN, LVN, EMT, Paramedic, MD, DO, PA, NP, APRN.
If you have supervisory experience, we are also looking for individuals to fill leadership roles called "shelter supervisor" and "Health Services Supervisor".
Safety First
We care about your health and well-being, and if you are interested in volunteering for any in-person essential services, please review the CDC guidance for people who are at higher risk for severe illness, consult your health care provider and follow local guidance.
If you can help in any of these positions during the wildfire season or you would like more information, please contact Sheri Bethoney at 916-261-0351 or Sherilyn.Bethoney@RedCross.org. Further, if you are interested in attending a virtual presentation on other volunteer opportunities, I invite you to attend one of our upcoming Virtual Open Houses. You can RSVP at www.tinyurl.com/GoldCountryOpenHouse.
