Mission Statement

To provide reading and English instruction to emerging bilingual and low-income children and adults.

Description

Meaningful Teens ( https://www.meaningfulteens. org/) is a virtual volunteering program for volunteers aged 14 and above. We are a nonprofit that teaches weekly literacy to low-income children (mostly grades K-6) individually over a Zoom platform in breakout rooms with retired, certified teachers entering the breakout rooms to assist in the learning process. We just partnered with Mercy Housing ( https://www.mercyhousing.org/ ) to help teach their children over Zoom once a week. Mercy expects to have 250 California children from the Bay Area that will come online to learn to read and develop reading comprehension skills with our Meaningful Teen volunteers. We also have a Project Crossover teaching reading to Ohio's immigrant African children and a Project Diversidad teaching reading to Oakland's K-2 graders. This summer we had 250 high school virtual volunteers teaching over 150 children.
