RSVP NYC's Virtual Mentoring for Justice-involved Youth - adults 55+ only
Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)/CSSNYC
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of the Community Service Society of New York matches the skills and interests of adults aged 55 and older with meaningful volunteer assignments across New York City.
Specifically, our Mentoring Program signature project provides support to NYC youth impacted by juvenile justice interactions or parental incarceration, providing them with general mentoring as well as teaching them the skills they need to build on their strengths and overcome challenges. Further, our program empowers those of our mentees with justice system impacts to make positive life choices that maximize their potential and get them back on track. In light of the ongoing health crisis, all aspects of our traditionally in-person mentoring program have gone fully virtual, including our screening, training, and placement processes along with the service itself. As always, we are looking for elders with a lifetime of experience who can commit to nurturing mentees for at least a year helping them to work toward and achieve career, academic, and personal goals as they reach for the stars.
All volunteers need to be 55 or older to join RSVP, including our Mentoring Program signature project. Those persons wishing to attend our online Virtual Mentor Orientation on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 from 11 am to 12:30 pm must contact Karen Brown to register and get the GotoMeeting meeting link. In said e-mail, please include your full name and phone number. You may also include questions or otherwise call Karen at 212.614.5557 to ask them over the phone.
About Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)/CSSNYC
633 Third Avenue, 10th Floor, New York, NY 10017, US
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) was started in 1966 by the Community Service Society (CSS), an over 170-year-old nonprofit agency. CSS's mission is to identify problems which create a permanent poverty class in New York City, and to advocate the systemic changes required to eliminate such problems. CSS will focus on enabling, empowering and promoting opportunities for poor families and individuals to develop their full potential, to contribute to society, and to realize social, economic and political opportunities.
RSVP matches adults 55 and older with meaningful volunteer opportunities at New York City nonprofits. With more than 2,300 volunteers, RSVP in New York City is one of the largest senior volunteer programs in the nation. There are over 600 RSVPs which operate nationally and many that do so internationally. We match volunteers on the basis of interests and abilities, community needs, geographic convenience, and experience.
