Virtual Mentoring for Justice-involved Youth - adults 55+ only

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City/CSSNY

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of the Community Service Society of New York matches the skills and interests of adults aged 55 and older with meaningful volunteer assignments across New York City.

Specifically, our Mentoring Program signature project provides support to NYC youth impacted by juvenile justice interactions or parental incarceration, providing them with general mentoring as well as teaching them the skills they need to build on their strengths and overcome challenges. Further, our program empowers those of our mentees with justice system impacts to make positive life choices that maximize their potential and get them back on track. In light of the ongoing health crisis, some aspects of our traditionally in-person mentoring program have gone fully virtual, including our screening, training, and placement processes. Regarding the service itself, mentors may have the option to serve remotely or in-person (depending on personal preference and the needs of each site). As always, we are looking for elders with a lifetime of experience who can commit to nurturing mentees for at least a year helping them to work toward and achieve career, academic, and personal goals as they reach for the stars.

All volunteers need to be 55 or older to join RSVP, including our Mentoring Program signature project. Orientation and training will be conducted on a rolling basis via webinar. If you would like more information and/or have questions or concerns, please contact Karen Brown at kbrown@cssny.org or (212) 614-5557.
