Role Brief: Provide oversight and management of the Kids at Risk Action volunteer program by building strong partnerships both inside and outside the organization to recruit, place, and retain a diverse and energized group of dedicated volunteers. A Volunteer Project Manager will work closely with leaders to assess needs for volunteer expertise and level of volunteer staffing, making it possible for KARA to maximize the impact of our mission by further developing and retaining our team of compassionate individuals.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a comprehensive volunteer needs assessment for all organization activities
  • Work with specialized teams across the organization to expand the number of volunteer opportunities and ensure vital operations are appropriately staffed to meet KARA’s strategic goals
  • Coordinate with operations and human resources to develop a consistent system for orientation, onboarding, and recognition
  • Formalize, standardize, and maintain the volunteer program
  • Manage recruitment, training, and professionalism of volunteers
  • Track volunteers, record skills, performance, availability, and scheduling
  • Facilitate volunteer orientation for new volunteers
  • Keep volunteers properly informed about the organization and their duties, through orientation, meetings, group sessions, emails, and phone calls

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Services, Human Resources, or similar relevant field
  • Minimum 3 years of program coordination and project management experience
  • Working knowledge of best practices in volunteer coordination
  • Recruiting, screening, and training experience
  • Writing skills related to writing the documents needed to manage the program such as volunteer job descriptions, a volunteer program brochure, and program-related press releases
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking, and rapport building skills with nonprofit boards, community members, and volunteers
  • Ability to match volunteers with staff and programs needing volunteer support
  • Ensure volunteers are assigned appropriate tasks according to their skills, experience, availability, and project timeline
  • Proficiency in Google Suite Apps such as Docs, Forms, and Sheets
  • Familiarity with Slack groups and communication
  • Minimum volunteer hours expected: 10 hours per week
