Homeless in Paradise
Homeless Children living in crisis

Project Hawai’i, Inc. is a nonprofit organization run 100% by volunteers and solely supported by public donations to provide year round services to homeless children.
We provide a FREE summer educational camp for the homeless children to help them learn and grow with healthy habits, expand their knowledge and open their minds to the wonders of our island and possibilities.
During camp our children range from 3 years through our teen mentors. Share Your Talent guests can choose to work with just the little ones 3-4 years or the older one's 5-8 years old. If your activity is generalized to fit 3-8, that is preferred. Our jr. leaders and teen mentors will assist the little one's to participate in your activity.
During camp our children will be learning to succeed in school. This means learn to stand in line properly, move between projects properly, sit and wait, sit and listen, follow instructions, etc. Everything these children lack from their home environment that leads them to usually drop out of school. Our children learn to be successful and have their own self direction/leadership for their own future.

WHAT IS SHARE YOUR TALENTS?
Share your talents allows the community to be involved in our camp and help us reach our goals to provide them a well rounded educational program.
You share your talent. You will be responsible to host a 3 hour event/activity with our keiki at camp. We accept all sorts of talents. Dancing, Singing, Creative Arts, Sports, Culture, Eco System, Science, Music, etc.
WE CAN NOT HAVE ANY ANIMALS FOR ANY REASON at our camp per the regulations of the state park.

VOLUNTEER EXPECTATIONS:

  1. Volunteers will provide a 3 hour program for the children to actively participate in
  2. Volunteers will choose if they want to work with the ages 3-8 or 3 & 4 year olds or the 5-8 year olds. (we prefer you gear your program to include all ages, we do have teen mentors to help the younger ones)
  3. Volunteers will submit an overview of their program, include materials working with and a title for our itinerary.
  4. Volunteer will provide all needed supplies to conduct the activity, all supplies, all resources. We have scissors and crayons... that is it. So, if your project needs glue, bring it. If your project needs them something to sit on, bring it.
  5. . Volunteers will arrive before their slated time for set up and provide their own volunteers if necessary to implement their projects.
  6. Volunteers will adhere to the guidelines about certain art projects which will be given if needed.
  7. Volunteers will bring 40 healthy snacks such as fresh fruit, etc.
  8. Volunteers will limit their volunteer team to 4 or less.
  9. Due to COVID we will have more restrictions as provided closer to our dates.

WHY?:
This camp changes the lives of homeless children. It is designed to help them succeed in school and eventually escape their own cycle of poverty. Our camp is run 100% by volunteers because we wish to work with those who want to give back, not profit from their talents... but to share and make a difference.

We have other guidelines that will be give to those who qualify for this opportunity. Mahalo for your time and interest in helping our homeless children succeed.

Please note: Volunteers need to be at least 21 years of age, or be in college working towards a degree in child development or social services, etc. We do accept families to apply as well. For teenagers who wish to participate by sharing their talent, we do require an adult as well.

Description

Project Hawai'i, Inc., is a nonprofit organization run 100% by volunteers to enhance the lives of children living in poverty situations on the islands of Hawai'i. Our public supported charity works year round to provide necessities to children living in substandard housing situations, such as tents on the waters edge, abandon vehicles, and make-shift structures hidden in the bushes and hills.

Our agency provides children with holiday parties, meals and services for all the major holidays including Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Other monthly services include providing emergency support, hygiene, food, clothing and outreach to the children living in homeless situations on 3 of the islands of Hawai'i, the Big Island (Hawai'i), Mau'i and O'ahu.

Project Hawai'i also provides educational and nutritional programs that include after school reading and tutoring programs and our summer camp activities. Children will also receive full back to school support from new backpacks filled with supplies, new outfits, and shoes. We also provide other educational needs throughout the year.

Project Hawai'i Summer Camp has ran for 15 years and won several dozen awards in nutrition and educational support. This program is our largest endevor and evolves year after to year to include even more learning opportunities to our keiki.
