Position Description

  • The role is responsible for designing, coding, and modifying websites, from layout to function. Strive to create visually appealing sites that feature user-friendly design and clear navigation. Analyze needs to implement Web site content, graphics, performance, and capacity.

Essential Functions of the Volunteer Position

  • Audit : Evaluate and make a recommendation for a website platform.
  • Site enhancements : Manage all web initiatives and site enhancements including implementation of new designs, improved website functionality, and marketing automation mechanisms.
  • Site improvements and Project Management : Identify areas of the site needing immediate improvement and create a prioritized project plan and timeline to address the most critical needs. Design solutions to address improvements needed.
  • Analytics: Monitor and analyze site performance (e.g traffic, conversions, time spent, navigation improvements needed, etc.). Address user complaints. Evaluate outside resources and vendors of web development services.
  • Research: Research web best practices and continually review competitive websites for improvement, usability, performance, and audience value.

Required Education, Background, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 6-10+ years managing and building websites required
  • Experience managing website redesigns
  • Experience managing a team of UX designers and web developers
  • In-depth knowledge of web design and maintenance
  • Experience working in a member or mission-driven organization preferred
  • Be willing and eager to proactively seek and accept help from inside and outside the organization. Able to work independently.
  • Focused on the end goal (serving the underprivileged middle school girls), not the process.

Mission Statement

JerseySTEM is a grassroots 501(c) nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math ("STEM") education to girls grade 5-8 from underserved communities in New Jersey. We partner with socially responsible companies and their employees, youth organizations in underserved communities, and civic-minded college students and universities. Together we develop and deliver innovative, hands-on, and online afterschool projects and inquiry-based learning opportunities that develop teamwork, 21st-century problem-solving skills, and self-esteem.

Description

Incorporated in 2013, JerseySTEM started bringing afterschool enrichment programs to middle school girls in 2015.
We have since provided 1,000 students with exposure to afterschool enrichment programs delivering more than 20,000 hours of instruction. Students learn to code, build robots, solve problems and through that process gain self-esteem and confidence that they can be the leaders of tomorrow.
