KAMA DC is a volunteer-run non-profit organization which creates a platform for immigrants in the Greater Washington DC area to share their skills and stories.
We are looking for a volunteer to join our classes team. KAMA DC holds a wide variety of cultural classes instructional workshops taught by immigrants, from Afro-Venezuelan dance to UX design to Saudi cooking. Volunteers work alongside teachers to brainstorm topics for the class, develop a lesson plan, prepare for the class, and manage event logistics.
KAMA DC's core group is made up of 20 volunteers who meet once a week for a virtual meeting on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm ET. The classes team meets in a breakout room as part of that meeting.
KAMA DC particularly encourages refugees, immigrants, and BIPOC to apply.

Description
KAMA DC is a grassroots organization in Washington DC which provides a platform for immigrants in the DMV area to share their skills and stories.
KAMA DC is run entirely by volunteers who are passionate about building ties, facilitating cultural exchanges, and starting conversations. We highlight the skills and stories that immigrants bring to our community by hosting skills based workshops, cooking classes, storytelling nights, film screenings, and more.
KAMA DC volunteers began to meet in 2016 and we held our first class in December 2016. We gained official 501(c) non-profit status in 2018.
The idea is simple: by allowing people to learn from each other, KAMA DC builds constructive contact between groups who rarely interact. We facilitate dialogue, mutual understanding, and empower instructors and course participants to build positive community relationships.
