KAMA DC is a volunteer-run non-profit organization which creates a platform for immigrants in the Greater Washington DC area to share their skills and stories.

We are looking for a volunteer to edit videos of our classes and events for social media and our website. We are also hoping to create a new promo video to help us reach a greater audience.

This volunteer will be a member of KAMA DC's promotions and branding team within its core group of volunteers. Volunteers in the promotions and branding team focus on design, social media, and website management. When not producing videos, this volunteer would help out on other aspects of promotions and visual design.

KAMA DC's core group is made up of 15 volunteers who meet once a week on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:00pm EST. At the moment we are working virtually but we usually meet in the Adams Morgan Community Center.

We particularly encourage applications from immigrant, refugee, and minority ethic candidates, as these groups are core to our mission and work.

Mission Statement

KAMA DC aims to build community through immigrant-led cultural experiences.

Description

KAMA DC is a grassroots organization in Washington DC which provides a platform for immigrants in the DMV area to share their skills and stories.

KAMA DC is run entirely by volunteers who are passionate about building ties, facilitating cultural exchanges, and starting conversations. We highlight the skills and stories that immigrants bring to our community by hosting skills based workshops, cooking classes, storytelling nights, film screenings, and more.

KAMA DC volunteers began to meet in 2016 and we held our first class in December 2016. We gained official 501(c) non-profit status in 2018.

The idea is simple: by allowing people to learn from each other, KAMA DC builds constructive contact between groups who rarely interact. We facilitate dialogue, mutual understanding, and empower instructors and course participants to build positive community relationships.
