In response to the CDC's recommendation that masks should be worn in public spaces, we are looking for nimble sewers and crafters that can help us supply reusable cloth masks to our staff. These will be especially important for our shelter advocates and guests who are in close proximity to each other at our emergency shelter. A wide variety of sizes is ideal to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to receive a well-fitting mask.
We are currently looking to provide masks for families in our family housing program. We are hoping for at least 300 masks for adults and 200 for children. This will be a great help to many of our participants that are still working and/or caring for their families during this challenging time.
Double or triple layer tightly-woven cotton masks that are sewn together are preferred and any quantity is helpful!
There are numerous tutorials on how to make masks based on material and skill level. The CDC has published some basic guidelines on their website here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html
If you would like to help us fill this need, please reply to this posting or e-mail volunteer@simpsonhousing.org.
Thank you for your support!
