Are you looking to make an impact in the fight against cancer in the SF Bay Area, nationally and globally?

The American Cancer Society is actively recruiting a Vice Chair for the San Francisco Associate Board of Ambassadors (ABOA). The ABOA is a dynamic group of professionals who seek to network with socially conscious peers (from industries like tech, legal, biotech and finance) and engage in the meaningful work that ACS is executing locally, including our mission to improve access to care and address social determinants of health that relate to cancer.

The ABOA will also participate in the San Francisco Discovery Gala- which is one of the top three American Cancer Society fundraisers in the country. The Gala seeks to raise more than $2 million in the effort to finish the fight against cancer. Nearly 500 high profile corporate sponsors, business and philanthropic leaders will be in attendance in 2020.

All members must pledge to the following:

  • Participation in monthly low-commitment, high engagement gatherings
  • Quarterly Volunteerism/ Fundraising Opportunities- each member of the group to join planning committee for (1) volunteerism or fundraising opportunity annually (to be planned at annual meeting in Q1)
  • San Francisco Discovery Gala Volunteer Participation on September 26 th, 2020 (required for all active members)
  • Commitment to fundraising a minimum of $1000 on behalf of the American Cancer Society by way of peer to peer fundraising, fundraising events (ie guest bartending etc), sponsorship procurement, corporate matching program, auction item procurement or direct donations
  • Expanding the ABOA’s reach by recruiting additional members in order to make a greater impact

In addition to the expectations outlined above, the ABOA Vice Chair must pledge to:

  • Serve as key leader and "second-in-command" for the ABOA.
  • Works with Chair to schedule ABOA meetings.
  • Work with Chair and ACS Staff Partner to appoint quarterly committees and to drive volunteerism and fundraising goals and projects
  • Facilitates ABOA meetings with support from Chair and ACS Staff partner/Takes and socializes meeting minutes/ keeps ABOA roster up to date/ monitors ABOA gmail
  • Works with Chair to identify sponsorship opportunities from personal network and/or make introductions to key members of the business or social community.
  • Recruited with the understanding that he/she would be able to assume the Chair position for the following term.

San Francisco or willing to travel to San Francisco

ABOA term & time commitment

  • The Vice Chair role is eligible for a two year term - to be determined by vote at the start of each year.

  • Members of the ABOA serve a 1-year term and will be eligible for re-appointment. Some members may also be invited to serve on specific projects.

Compensation

This position is with a non-profit organization, which is volunteer in nature and non-compensated.
