About the CCLA:

Everyone in our organization, from our board members to our Capitol advocates, are unpaid volunteers who care about the people of California and seek to make a difference. We need more volunteers to assist in research, education, social media, public relations, district outreach, fundraising, and Capitol advocacy.

Summary of Position:

The fundraising director will be responsible for recruiting and organizing volunteers, researching fundraising opportunities, and writing grant applications to charitable trusts or statutory bodies. The fundraising director will also be responsible for building relationships with major donors or companies and making presentations, devising and organizing fundraising campaigns and events, and raising awareness of the organization’s work.

Key Skills:

The fundraising director must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. They need to be good at researching and devising strategies and opportunistically taking advantage of donation possibilities. The fundraising director must be adept at management, building long-term relationships with potential donors or volunteers, and persuasively explaining their organization's cause. The ability to manage budgets and hit fundraising targets are important; and an interest in, and commitment to, the cause they are raising money for is essential.

Substantial experience in fundraising is required. Experience in law or accountancy is preferred but not required. Knowledge of the charity sector and the particular cause area you are aiming to work in, is essential.

Special Considerations:

The CCLA is currently without a fundraising director and operates on a very limited budget. The candidate must be a self-starter and have experience in the field as we are unable to provide training.
