Join us on the first Saturday of each month to restore native habitats within our unique Post Oak trees. Hermann Park Conservancy is seeking volunteers to help restore Bayou Parkland, an area in Hermann Park once used as an outdoor science classroom. Volunteers are needed to help restore the habitat by removing overgrown or invasive plants, shrub/tree limb trimming, planting or seeding and mulching. Habitats include forest, ponds and pocket prairies. This is a great volunteer service opportunity for groups, scouts, and youth, as well to learn about our mixed-oak savannah and the benefit of restoring native grasses and plants. Large groups of 40+ must carpool, parking is limited. Please register to volunteer by contacting our volunteer department.
Wear: All volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes and long pants; weather appropriate clothing that can get dirty, wet, or muddy. Please do not wear shorts, no sandals or flip-flops. Volunteers should wear weather appropriate and comfortable clothing.
Bring: Individual water bottles, snacks (recommended during warm months); completed HPC waiver release for each participant (this includes leaders, chaperones, teachers, adults and youth).
Provided by HPC: gloves, tools, and a cooler of water with paper cups. Volunteers are welcome to bring their own tools (marked with your name) or to donate tools as a means to replenish HPC’s limited supply.
