If you’re a copywriter with experience in email marketing and a passion for helping underserved children gain access to education, keep reading! Oppia is looking for passionate individuals to join our Email Newsletter team to help create and publish our regular newsletter. This will enable us to provide updates to our supporters and raise awareness of the work we’re doing, as well as bring in donations that would help ensure the financial sustainability of the organization and enable Oppia to continue providing free educational services for underserved learners around the world who are unable to afford them. To get started, please fill in this form: https://forms.gle/3pnmkoP6okWrAJQX9 Who We Are The Oppia Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission to provide high quality education to all. We do this through the creation and maintenance of our free-to-use platform, Oppia (https://www.oppia.org), the coordination of our passionate contributors, and the development of critical partnerships with NGOs in the communities we aim to serve. Where You Fit In Millions of children are not receiving the education they deserve. Of the 61 million children worldwide who cannot attend primary school, 17 million will never step foot into a school if trends continue. In the wake of COVID-19, millions more children are also seeing interruptions in their daily lives, stability, and education - making it even more difficult than before for many students to get the education they need to succeed. The learners we serve are typically from low-income families which cannot afford to pay for education; in some cases, the parents may not even have had the opportunity to attend school. Thus, to maintain and improve the services that we offer them, it is important to source donations that allow us to cover their costs. Our opt-in email newsletter gives our supporters a way to follow along with our work and receive updates on the impact of their donations. We are currently seeking strong email marketing copywriters who can help produce and edit content for our email newsletter. You should be someone who is familiar with blogging/article writing, email newsletter strategy, passionate about the problems that Oppia is solving, and excited about community engagement! Support Kid Success through a literacy tutoring program! We know that child literacy is a key indicator of success later in life. Therefore, Brilliant Detroit puts a strong emphasis on early child literacy programs. We work with several partners to provide literacy instruction to students K-3. Each program offers a slightly different experience and schedule. We are happy to connect with you to provide further details and help determine which program would be the best fit for you. There are a few elements that are constant across all of our tutoring offerings, which we have outlined below. Program Details and Next Steps: We are looking for individuals who can commit to volunteering weekly for 30-45 minutes at a time. All of our literacy tutoring programs operate within the window of 4-7pm from Monday to Thursday with a variety of start times in that range. Consistency has shown to make a huge impact on our students' literacy and confidence, so please make sure you are able to attend each week. All of our tutoring programs have students and tutors meet one-on-one via Zoom to read together and engage in literacy games and activities. Some of our programs will offer an in person options for both tutors and students. To become a tutor, one must attend a program training, pass a background check (we cover the cost), and attend a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training. • Facilitate virtual Family Feud for older adults

Family Eldercare's Lifetime Connections Without Walls is a virtual activities program for older adults across the country. We offer social and educational sessions by phone and video. We're looking for volunteers to facilitate our 30-minute BRAIN AEROBICS session on Fridays at 1:00 pm-1:30 pm Central Standard Time (CST). The time commitment is about an hour, from 12:45 pm-1:45 pm CST to account for pre and post-session tasks. If every Friday is too much of a commitment, we can create a rotational schedule. Our Brain Aerobics session is Family Feud-style. You pull up Family Feud-type questions online and read them to participants over the phone and they come up with the answers. While we've been using Family Feud-type questions for many years, we are open to changing it up if you have ideas. The goal of the session is to get the brain engaged and have fun! While this volunteer opportunity is virtual, you must live in the U.S. Phone, computer, and internet connection is required, along with positive and fun energy that transfers well over the phone to older adults. Training and ongoing support provided. Thanks so much for considering this opportunity!

  • Refugee youth mentor

Refugee Youth Mentor (Maryland & Virginia): Volunteers are paired with refugee youth (ages 16-24 in MD; 15-24 in VA) to assist with career development and empowerment. Duties vary based on the goals and interests of the youth, but tend to focus on exploring career and educational opportunities, identifying career pathways, assisting with the job search and application process (resumé, cover letter, application, interview), and setting short and long term goals. The goal of the mentorship is to allow the youth to have a mentor that can help navigate US systems, promote civic engagement and leadership opportunities, and provide guidance with various questions and ideas as they begin thinking about future careers or education. Mentors play an integral role in showing mentees the vast array of opportunities that may be available to them in the US, as well as supporting and empowering them to explore these opportunities. Mentoring is virtual now due to COVID and volunteers need to have regular contact with the youth client, ideally once a week or at least once every two weeks. Volunteers are part of the LSSNCA Youth Mentoring Community where there are opportunities for monthly training and development meetings, as well as outside presentations in relevant areas of interest to youth clients. The duration of the mentoring relationship is typically between six months to one year. Please note: We are located in the Washington, DC Metro area, including Maryland and Northern Virginia. • Soft Doll Companions for Seniors

Special Seniors in need of hugs. Some seniors love to carry around baby dolls and soft dolls are easy to wash, dry, disinfect and the patients name can easily be written on the doll to ensure the doll is always returned if misplaced. The dolls are made of fabric and have a soft filling, with any of the facial features sewn on securely for safety purposes and have "somewhat" realistic features. They provide soft hugs and companionship for lonely seniors in nursing facilities, especially the little grandmas that enjoyed taking care of their grandchildren. If you would like to bless a senior with a new soft doll for the holidays, please reach out to me for further information. Tammy Webb, VC @ 210.585.2335 or vc@guidinghospice.com

At each market community members line up to receive 70lbs of fresh reduced produce for a donation of $15 to support the mission of Borderlands Produce Rescue. 3520 East Brown RoadMesa, AZ 85213
    Sat, May 11, 2024 - Sat, July 13, 2024

Desert Farms2Table a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization host our Farms2Table program with market locations on Saturday mornings reoccurring on the same weekend each month. At each farmers market with a $15 donation, supporters receive quality fruits and vegetables at an affordable cost with limits to help supplement meals in Arizona communities but most importantly reduce hunger, food insecurity and food waste. Each donation helps support the mission of Desert Farms2Table. Produce is delivered to the market location as early at 3:30 am, volunteers arrive as early 5:30am. The following shifts consist of 5:30-9:00 am, 7:30-11:00 am or a full shift. Limits are designated and will be available through out the market in a menu format. Early morning volunteers roles are to sort the produce and arrange it in a produce line so supporters can easily receive their produce while pushing their boxes (card board boxes are supplied or supporters can bring their own bags or carts) through. Volunteers who would like to help during the shift starting at 7am would help with the replenishment of the produce line but most importantly with the clean-up of the market. Such roles consist of breaking down and flattening of cardboard boxes, cleaning and putting tables away and sweeping the parking lot. Our partnered host would like the parking lot to be returned in the same condition before the produce was delivered. Each successful Farm2Table market is run by a group of dedicated volunteers, We truly cherish everyone who helps so supporters can eat nutritiously. PLEASE SIGN UP TO HELP!

It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

"No one visits anymore" was what the mom of a chaplain said to him one day. She was in hospice, had a life-limiting illness and could have used a caring person to come and spend time with her, talking about her life and sharing similar stories. Someone to watch a movie with on T.V., someone to read to her or write a letter or two to family members. Someone to play Scrabble or Yahtzee or cards with. That's what hospice volunteers do. They are a friendly, caring person who gives of their time and selves in selfless service to others. The times to visit are flexible and are appreciated for what you can do, if it's a couple hours a couple of times per month or more, that time is appreciated more than you will know. We provide the training and on-going supervision support, you provide yourself and your care. Most of our folks are in their own homes, sometimes a group home or facility. Volunteers do so much for not only the patients but the families as well by being available to talk, visit and give time for the caregivers to have a break. Volunteers provide the kind of support that is special and unique, being the "no agenda" person in the patient's life. If you have this kind of heart, please contact us and we'll make sure you are trained and ready to do this special work. NEW Chaps ruling is ALL volunteers need to be Vaccinated for COVID -19 to be considered.

Every Saturday Borderlands Produce Rescue hosts weekly produce markets. At each market community members line up to receive 70lbs of fresh reduced produce for a donation of $15 to support the mission of Borderlands Produce Rescue. Produce is delivered to the distribution site early each morning and volunteers begin to arrive at 6 am for the first shift. Produce allotments have already been assigned and will be available in the form of lists on site. The responsibility of morning volunteers is to sort the produce into boxes so it can be easily picked up by supporters. For example, as part of the 70lbs of produce if we are providing 7lbs of green beans it will be your responsibility to bag 7lbs of green beans and add it to the produce box. If we are providing 15 heirloom tomatoes you will count off the 15 and add them to the box. And so on. Each location will receive approximately 5-11 variations of produce to be added to pick-up boxes for Borderlands supporters. At the close of the market at 11:00 am, volunteers will assist with the clean-up of the location. The many churches and sites of the markets ask that we break down boxes, sweep the parking lot, and return the location to them the same way we received it in the morning. The mission of the Volunteer In Paradise program is to raise student achievement; the data shows that we are fulfilling our mission. Students who received tutoring from our VIPs showed much greater academic growth than non-tutored students. These results are just one reason the program has been certified by Points of Light in June of 2021 as a Service Enterprise, received a Golden Bell Award from the Arizona School Boards Association in 2017 and a First Place Magna Award from the National School Board Association in 2015. You, too, can make a difference by giving as little as one hour per week to tutor and to serve as a caring role model. You will provide valuable assistance to our teachers and become part of a school community. Support and training for volunteers is ongoing. To learn more and to register for an orientation, please visit www.pvschools.net/VIP or send an email Marisha Geraghty at VolunteerInParadise@pvlearners.net.
