Better Impact Software Expert
We're looking for a volunteer that is already proficient in working with Better Impact Volunteer Tracking Software. We use the software daily for what we know. We want a volunteer that has worked with the software is is aware of the other capabilities and uses. We are unable to train on the software because we don't know the programs potential uses. Without experience in using the software it would take a lot of time for someone to get up to speed. Currently potential volunteers complete an online application, receive an automated welcome email that drives them to an orientation video and job specific training modules. Volunteers can view the volunteer opportunities, available shifts, sign up, and log completed hours. Most of the processes have been in place for a long time so a "fresh look" could reveal enhancements to better our volunteer experience. More how to videos would be helpful Better updates and appreciation messages to the volunteers Things we might not know so we don't know what to ask I am eager to hear your experience and ideas.

People in Recovery From Addictive Behavior Need Your Time & Energy to Succeed.
with SMART RecoveryThe best journeys in life aren’t where you find yourself - they’re where you find other people . Scientific evidence shows that discussion groups work in recovery. This support has become increasingly important throughout the pandemic as a way for participants to connect themselves and their experiences with others and the greater world. If you have approximately 1.5 hours a week to volunteer, you could facilitate a group via Zoom to help support participants in changing how they think about their experiences and also in what they would like to change for their futures. As the weekly meetings are held via Zoom, this opportunity is not geographically-limited although most of the participants are based in the San Diego area. These weekly groups offer dynamic conversational opportunities for group participants to share suggestions for what personal experience has shown to be successful and also for challenges and struggles individuals are experiencing. The participants help one another. Your responsibility is to keep the meeting on track using a tested process we have developed and by following some simple guided discussion scripts we will provide. We have a free, thorough training process defined and will provide a mentor to work one-on-one with you to guide you through the process. We will also help you find substitutes if you need to miss a meeting. If you would like to help others build positive relationships, better habits, greater capacity to cope with behaviors they wish to change, and lead more balanced, productive, and meaningful lives, this is the opportunity for you. YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE ADDICTIVE OR MALADAPTIVE RECOVERY BEHAVIOR EXPERIENCE YOURSELF. To learn more about the opportunity and receive more information on the free training and one-on-one mentoring, please email: training@smartrecoverysd.org More information about San Diego SMART is also available on our website: smartrecoverysd.org If you care about people and connections, you will not find a more meaningful and rewarding experience than volunteering with SMART Recovery. SMART Recovery is a community devoted to helping individuals learn about and practice a self-empowering approach for stopping problematic addictive behavior. SMART Recovery offers a science-based, non-step philosophy that provides tools and strategies for individuals under the umbrella of four main points: Building & Maintaining Motivation; Coping with Urges & Cravings; Managing Thoughts, Feelings & Behaviors; and Building A Balanced Life. Our motto is "Discover the Power of Choice". We welcome your participation in our community.

Food and Supply Runners: Hands-On Support
with Rose Haven1740 Northwest Glisan StreetPortland, OR 97209It's Flexible! We'll work with your scheduleRunners are one of Rose Haven's greatest volunteer needs! Volunteers can either run supplies for our hospitality desk or work with kitchen staff to run food to our dining area. As a supply runner, volunteers work with a staff member at the front door, to provide requested supplies to our guests, generally hygiene products, clothing, mail, and outdoor supplies. Here you will act as a personal shopper for our guests, taking their order and then going inside to collect the supplies. After you have collected the items they are looking for, you will bring it to the person waiting outside. Food runners help to bridge the gap between the kitchen and our guests by bringing delicious food out to our dining area. Last year we moved into an amazing new space, allowing us to expand our services and meaning we need and appreciate every volunteer!

with Rose Haven1740 Northwest Glisan StreetPortland, OR 97209It's Flexible! We'll work with your scheduleThe Shower Assistant aids in administering one of the most vital services for Rose Haven's guests: a private, long shower. Monday through Friday, visitors have access to showers from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. You and a member of the staff will work together to keep the showers and other facilities clean for our guests. There are three private showers and three vanities for guests to use. You will provide guests with freshly cleaned towels, washcloths, bath mats, shampoo, conditioner, and other shower supplies at guests' request. After each use, the showers are to be disinfected by spraying the surfaces and then wiping the touch sites with a medical-grade disinfectant that has been allowed to dry. Only female-identified volunteers may volunteer for this position. The wellness desk is where guests can get hygiene supplies and beauty products. Guests can also sign up for Rose Haven's wellness classes and activities. This program allows guests to connect over something other than the challenging circumstances that bring them to the shelter. These activities help empower our guests by giving them opportunities to learn, be creative, heal, and socialize. We are following COVID-19 mask safety protocols inside Rose Haven. We ask volunteers to wear gloves when working in the shower area.

Change Lives-Your's and Another's: Become a Hospice Volunteer today!
Portland Metro Area5835 NE 122nd Suite #155Portland, OR 97230It's Flexible! We'll work with your scheduleDo you have good people skills, enjoy being around people or love to share stories? If so, please consider becoming a patient companion volunteer with Adventist Health Hospice. The main qualities needed to be a patient companion volunteer are an open heart and a listening ear. It is about the gift of your presence and spending just a little of your time to sit with those who are facing terminal illness. Sometimes, it’s just to talk or read or share stories and laughter...at other times...you could help record a life history, or play cards or board games. It’s as individual as you are. A volunteer’s presence helps to lessen a patient’s loneliness by providing companionship. And caregivers find relief when a volunteer comes by to stay with a patient while he or she enjoys some badly needed personal time off. Our volunteers work in the field - in patient’s homes, adult family homes, or nursing homes, wherever a patient might call home. Hours and time commitment are flexible. We offer great training and ongoing support to ensure that you will feel comfortable in your work as a valued member of the Adventist Health Hospice Team! If you feel your heart responding to this type of service, contact us today at hartmakl@ah.org.

Memory Bears are treasured by bereaved spouses, children, grandchildren, and friends. Are you crafty with a sewing machine? Do you have experience making teddy bears, or willing to learn and donate your time and craft to bereaved families in the community? If so, we’d love to hear from you. Assist Native American nonprofit to finish building its raised garden beds at Elderberry Wisdom Farm
2281 Delaney Road SoutheastSalem, OR 97306Sat, February 10, 2024 - Sat, March 30, 2024Dear friends of Elderberry Wisdom Farm, Greetings to each of you! Some of you have volunteered out here at our Farm in the past year or two so I'm checking in to say hello on this winter day. I trust you are staying well and safe. We made a lot of progress at the farm the past two years, mostly thanks to our amazing group of volunteers. Two years ago, we potted over 800 Native plants in our temporary greenhouse and they were planted on the property along a 350 foot hedgerow along the road and in our forested area over the past two years. A year ago, we potted 1,000 new Native plant starts and are preparing to open our Native American Plant Nursery LLC in 2024. They are an awesome group of plant starts: Pacific Dogwood, Blue Elderberry, Thimbleberry, Oregon Grape, and others. This February we will be potting another 500 Native plant starts and appreciate volunteers helping us get the plants into our pots. We are also building our raised garden beds and our recessed garden beds in our new two-acre Native Plant Nursery site. That info is below UPCOMING VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES: Help is needed for the next two months this winter as we build a long raised garden bed for Native plant species. We are also tending our Blue Elderberry patch. We will remove weeds around the base of the bushes and add some compost around the two dozen plants that have survived the past two years of drought and freezing temps. We will also tend our hedgerow, perhaps do some blackberry removal and other light work around the farm. Our farm has now welcomed one new Habitat Restoration and Plant Nursery Coordinator, Shannon Chinook. She will be working with our volunteers this winter. Please feel free to email Shannon at shannon@elderberrywisdom.org if you have questions. She is looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Rose Rose High Bear (Deg Hit'an Dine, Inupiaq) Founder Elderberry Wisdom Farm 2281 Delaney Road SE, Salem OR 97306 rose@elderberrywisdom.org www.elderberrywisdom.org

Some examples of what a Direct Care Volunteer could do: Provide companionship Socialization and/or support to hospice patients and their families/caregivers Reading to the patient Playing games Writing letters to or on behalf of the patient Assisting with light household duties (watering plants, walking pets, washing dishes, emptying and taking out the garbage, etc. Volunteers make their own schedule! We do ask for about 2 hours per visit.
