Oppia is looking for passionate individuals to join our Email Newsletter team to help create and publish our regular newsletter. This will enable us to provide updates to our supporters and raise awareness of the work we’re doing, as well as bring in donations that would help ensure the financial sustainability of the organization and enable Oppia to continue providing free educational services for underserved learners around the world who are unable to afford them. To get started, please fill in this form: https://forms.gle/3pnmkoP6okWrAJQX9 Who We Are The Oppia Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission to provide high quality education to all. We do this through the creation and maintenance of our free-to-use platform, Oppia (https://www.oppia.org), the coordination of our passionate contributors, and the development of critical partnerships with NGOs in the communities we aim to serve. Where You Fit In Millions of children are not receiving the education they deserve. Of the 61 million children worldwide who cannot attend primary school, 17 million will never step foot into a school if trends continue. In the wake of COVID-19, millions more children are also seeing interruptions in their daily lives, stability, and education - making it even more difficult than before for many students to get the education they need to succeed. The learners we serve are typically from low-income families which cannot afford to pay for education; in some cases, the parents may not even have had the opportunity to attend school. Thus, to maintain and improve the services that we offer them, it is important to source donations that allow us to cover their costs. Our opt-in email newsletter gives our supporters a way to follow along with our work and receive updates on the impact of their donations. We are currently seeking strong email marketing copywriters who can help produce and edit content for our email newsletter. You should be someone who is familiar with blogging/article writing, email newsletter strategy, passionate about the problems that Oppia is solving, and excited about community engagement! What our Software Development team contributes Software developers will work closely with other volunteer developers around the world, Oppia's design team, and NGOs in various countries who are in direct contact with students, in order to implement features and key functionality to help learners and translators. The team is very collaborative and has a culture of providing and receiving constructive feedback through code reviews. Some examples of projects we're working on include: Adding functionality in the "contributor dashboard" to ease the process of translating lessons Fixing small issues in the lesson player that confuse students who haven't used a phone before Finding ways to make the site faster and more performant on low-end devices Don't worry if you're new to "open source", or if you're still a student -- many of our contributors are, too, and we'd be more than happy to provide mentorship and support if this is your first time contributing to an open source project! • VIRTUAL My Brothers Keeper Mentoring for Black & Hispanic Male Youth

Through the VIRTUAL My Brothers Keeper mentoring program for Black and Hispanic middle and high school males via Skype or other online video platform. The virtual program will help underserved youth who have not been able to go to school to receive these services, have experienced learning loss in or do not have access to learn computer science, and who need support because they have been impacted more than other students during the COVID-19 health pandemic. Mentors should meet virtually at least 1 hour a week in a 1 on 1 virtual meeting with a student or a group of students. In that meeting, you and the student may discuss any of the following topics: Career and college topics in developing tech skills as well as business skills. Life skills, perseverance, leadership, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, and character development are also important mentoring topics. Business topics our students need are entrepreneurship and tech startup skills development. Some tech topics we hope mentors may also address with the students are cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, software engineering, and physical computing. Volunteers who are STEM, business, and computer science professionals from ethnically diverse backgrounds are especially needed to participate as tech role models for our students so that the young men see people who reflect their identities in the tech industry. In addition, the financial contributions and donations you make to support this program and any help you can provide with fundraising efforts are appreciated. Your support makes our world a better place.

  • Are you a persuasive storyteller? Help Oppia secure grants to support free education

If you’re interested in grantwriting and storytelling for impact, with the aim of helping underserved children gain access to education, this is the volunteer role for you! Oppia is looking for passionate individuals to join our Grants and Fundraising Team to help secure the financial sustainability of the organization and enable Oppia to continue providing free educational services for underserved learners around the world who are unable to afford them. To get started, please fill in this form: https://forms.gle/5hwbq9c6AUYdzFqh7 Who We Are The Oppia Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission to provide high quality education to all. Thus, to maintain and improve the services that we offer to them, it is important to source funding that allows us to cover the cost of offering these services. We generally aim to fund operating expenses through individual donations, but there are several major projects we are undertaking (such as core improvements to the website and Android app based on feedback from learners and volunteers) that will require grant funding in order to succeed. We are currently seeking strong writers who can help with grant and funding applications. This process includes helping to collate impact stories and metrics, describing the organization’s current and proposed activities in a clear and readable way, and compiling the application material for specific grants. We welcome individuals who are willing to learn and grow through this opportunity, and would be happy to guide those without prior experience in grant writing. Why Oppia is an Organization You Want to Work With Oppia has served over 2,000,000 users. Oppia focuses on effectiveness, and conducts rigorous user testing and RCTs to validate the lessons we offer. Learners using Oppia’s lessons have seen gains of 50+% from pre-test to post-test. Oppia's contributors actively help to provide students around the world with basic education. Please see https://medium.com/@ebelubhuhiose/86b97283edf4 and https://medium.com/@ojobusayo99/6e783aaddb74 for examples of our current work. Oppia has a community of hundreds of passionate volunteers from across the globe, so our meetings are held online at flexible times. What Our Grants and Fundraising Team Contributes Develop and submit grant proposals and letters of inquiry. Prepare and compile the components of grant submissions, and ensure that they meet granting agency requirements. Prepare relevant materials to support grants and fundraising activities, such as narratives describing program activities, concept papers, and success stories. If you’d like to help out, please fill in our application form: https://forms.gle/5hwbq9c6AUYdzFqh7 . Thank you!

  • Adult Literacy Tutor-Be the Positive Change in Cleveland (Virtual Tutoring)

Got a soft spot for sentence composition? Love long division or adore algebra? How about sharing your everyday reading, writing, and math skills with a dedicated adult learner in your community? Seeds of Literacy, an award-winning nonprofit organization that provides free GED prep and basic education to adults in the Cleveland area, has an urgent need for people just like you to volunteer as adult literacy tutors. The shocking truth is that an estimated 66% of adults in Cleveland are functionally illiterate, and may struggle with everyday necessities like reading a bus schedule and understanding medication labels. This is where you can make a very real difference! Tutors work one-to-one with students to improve reading, writing, and math skills, offer encouragement and support, and help students develop positive attitudes towards learning. Generally we ask that tutors come to one class session per week for one year. We can, however, make accommodations for those with special circumstances. Classes are two hours long, and we offer a flexible class schedule with sessions scheduled throughout the day to accommodate personal preference and availability. Tutoring sessions take place in our Virtual Classroom on Zoom. You don’t have to be an educator to help - we’ll train you. • Attorneys - help victims of child abuse

Legal services are a frequent need for clients that contact Justice for Children. Keeping their child safe from an abuser may require protective orders, divorce from an abuser, the need to establish or modify child custody and, many times, child support. Many of the victimized children we work with are the product of unmarried parents creating a need for the establishment of paternity. These clients lack the monetary resources to hire attorneys. The abuse of their child and lack of immediate resources to access services desperately places them in a crisis mode and highly emotional making the process even more daunting to them.

  • Compeer Calling Volunteer

WHAT IS THE COMPEER PROGRAM? "Compeer" means a companion who is also a peer or equal. Loneliness, failure, fear and loss of self-esteem are universal experiences of those who suffer from a mental illness. A caring friend can help restore joy and hope to a life that is often empty of both. Compeer volunteers are individuals of all ages, walks of life, races, and religions who enjoy companionship and helping people. Many of them have had experiences with loneliness and difficult times in their own lives, which enables them to bring a special understanding to the Compeer relationship. Help Now! Advocacy is now searching for a new development director who will lead the organization into sustainability as it continues to transform itself and its nationally-unique services from a local organization that has served 9300+ clients over the past 18 years into a virtual and national organization now offering our services through the first-ever national advocacy hotline for individuals and families in crisis. (A national phone company has donated the hotline and all services associated with it to our organization. The individual we are seeking for this position must have prior experience as a non-profit development director or otherwise have considerable knowledge in the area of fundraising and grant writing for non-profits. He or she must also be a creative individual with personal charisma and impeccable credentials. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to get in on the "ground floor" of a unique social service that has the potential to impact the lives of great numbers of Americans. While we are looking for an individual who has the ability to work without pay for a period of time as funding is procured for the position, we also expect this to become a fully paid position with benefits within a reasonable period of time with pay growing as the organization grows. Applicants should be clear that the magnitude of their contributions/funding procured as a volunteer DD will be a very strong consideration when a determination is made by our board of directors as to who fills that paid position. If sustainable funding has been created by this individual while in the volunteer DD position, unless there is some other unforeseen consideration that would come into the hiring assessment, it is highly likely that the individual would be placed in the paid position. Applicants should be clear that, while the magnitude of their contributions as a volunteer ED will be a strong consideration when a determination is made by our board of directors as to who fills that paid position when available, their volunteer ED work is not a guarantee of assuming the paid position. That said, our organization is thoroughly professional and is not looking to take advantage of anyone. • WordPress Plugin & Crowdfund Web Developer - Hedonista Crowdfund

Human sexuality is a taboo subject for open discussion in most countries of the world. Yet the realities of its effect on humanity cannot be ignored. The Hedonista CrowdFund Platform seeks to address sexual pleasure and dysfunction in practical ways that can be personally healing or commercially viable. We seek a volunteer, proficient in WordPress, to help develop a crowdfunding startup for sex-positive entrepreneurs. This crowdfund platform will also provide help to those who have endured sex-negative experiences. Working on our campaign gave us the idea to crowdfund sex-positive ideas that address a personal or societal dysfunction. We would use a similar coding infrastructure as traditional crowdfunding sites such as Kickstarter and GoFundMe. However, there would be additional safeguards and other features to reflect the adult nature of the site. Sex-Positive Funding: There are many ethical and erotic ideas that entrepreneurs have from around the world that they are unable to realize because of a lack of funds. An ethical or activist erotic business is one that addresses problems in human sexuality with a product or service. Sex-Negative Funding: There are many areas of human sexuality which are dysfunctional. In those areas, there are potential products or services that can address areas of sexual dysfunction and make a sustainable income. Being able to raise funds related to sexual healing could address many problems related to the negative effects of sexuality in the world. The Hedonista Crowdfund development project would help people to fulfill their sensual entrepreneur dreams or escape sexual nightmares. Dysfunctional sexuality the root of so many problems in societies. This project has the potential to reach every citizen of every country in the world. Our site is in Wordpress. There are currently crowdfund plugins that we can use to implement a crowdfund on our site.

After you have collected the items they are looking for, you will bring it to the person waiting outside. Food runners help to bridge the gap between the kitchen and our guests by bringing delicious food out to our dining area. Last year we moved into an amazing new space, allowing us to expand our services and meaning we need and appreciate every volunteer!

There are three private showers and three vanities for guests to use. You will provide guests with freshly cleaned towels, washcloths, bath mats, shampoo, conditioner, and other shower supplies at guests' request. After each use, the showers are to be disinfected by spraying the surfaces and then wiping the touch sites with a medical-grade disinfectant that has been allowed to dry. Only female-identified volunteers may volunteer for this position. The wellness desk is where guests can get hygiene supplies and beauty products. Guests can also sign up for Rose Haven's wellness classes and activities. This program allows guests to connect over something other than the challenging circumstances that bring them to the shelter. These activities help empower our guests by giving them opportunities to learn, be creative, heal, and socialize. We are following COVID-19 mask safety protocols inside Rose Haven. We ask volunteers to wear gloves when working in the shower area.

It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

Do you have good people skills, enjoy being around people or love to share stories? If so, please consider becoming a patient companion volunteer with Adventist Health Hospice. The main qualities needed to be a patient companion volunteer are an open heart and a listening ear. It is about the gift of your presence and spending just a little of your time to sit with those who are facing terminal illness. Sometimes, it’s just to talk or read or share stories and laughter...at other times...you could help record a life history, or play cards or board games. It’s as individual as you are. A volunteer’s presence helps to lessen a patient’s loneliness by providing companionship. And caregivers find relief when a volunteer comes by to stay with a patient while he or she enjoys some badly needed personal time off. Our volunteers work in the field - in patient’s homes, adult family homes, or nursing homes, wherever a patient might call home. Hours and time commitment are flexible. We offer great training and ongoing support to ensure that you will feel comfortable in your work as a valued member of the Adventist Health Hospice Team! If you feel your heart responding to this type of service, contact us today at hartmakl@ah.org.

Memory Bears Memory Bears are made in remembrance of a loved one; created out of the clothing of the person who has passed. In making a memory bear, old clothes are transformed into a huggable and comforting bear. These bears are then returned to the family with the intention of providing comfort, connection, and solace to those in grief. Memory Bears are treasured by bereaved spouses, children, grandchildren, and friends. Are you crafty with a sewing machine? Do you have experience making teddy bears, or willing to learn and donate your time and craft to bereaved families in the community? If so, we’d love to hear from you. Please reach out with interest or any questions you may have. Thank you! Why Volunteer for Care Partners Do you have a heart for people? Do you want to make a big difference in someone’s day? • Serve your community from your home with The Birthday Giving Program - Portland, OR

    The Portland AreaPortland, OR 97035
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

Opening a birthday giving chapter is easy, fun, and a great way to give back to the community! Here's how it works: 1. We schedule a video call with you to explain how the process works. 2. Our first choice is to find a Salvation Army location (or another organization that is willing to pick up the birthday bags from your house) that is geographically close to where you live. 3. We contact the Salvation Army (or another organization that is willing to pick up the birthday bags from your house) and explain The Birthday Giving Program's mission. This organization should be able to pick up the birthday bags from your house. 4. You order the birthday bag supplies off of Amazon or another online store and have the gifts shipped to your house. Each birthday bag costs between $5 and $10, depending on how many gifts you decide to put in the bag. Your goal is to provide 10 birthday bags to the organization each month. Each birthday bag includes the same gift items, which will go to kids of a specific age group! 5. Once you have packed the birthday bags, you contact the organization and they pick up the birthday bags from your house! If you are interested in serving the senior citizen or veterans division let us know and we can find an organization to connect you with!

Why Volunteer for Care Partners Do you have a heart for people? Do you want to make a big difference in someone’s day? As a volunteer for Care Partners you can make a profound difference in a family’s life as a compassionate and calm presence who understands what they are going through. Our volunteers share our calling to bring comfort and help to others when they need it the most. Without the help of people like you we could not provide the level of service families in our community deserve. Our specially trained volunteers are crucial in the daily operation and success of our program both in the office and supporting patients wherever they call home. 000 Main StreetSt. Helens, OR 97051
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

Many residents in long-term care, such as assisted living or skilled nursing facilities, have no one to speak up for them when their rights are violated. You can amplify their voices to ensure they receive appropriate care, have a fulfilling lifestyle, and are treated with dignity. The mission of Oregon’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman program is to protect individual rights, enhance quality of life, improve care, and promote dignity for residents living in long-term care facilities. Many residents have no one to watch out for them or speak up when things go wrong; call lights go unanswered, meals arrive cold, or medications are given incorrectly. Ombudsman don’t make decisions for the resident, or act as their legal representative, or provide care. It is our role to inform the resident of their rights, and then act upon their decision, resolving it in whatever way necessary. The need for Ombudsmen volunteers is great throughout the state, and we are looking for volunteers in Columbia County. A six-day online training will be scheduled for those who successfully complete the application process. Become someone who can help be a problem solver and advocate for many who cannot speak for themselves. Call the office at 971-600-6149 for more information or apply online by clicking this link: https://form.jotform.com/201555656015048. Special Note: Volunteers are returning to providing in-person visits at long-term care facilities at this time! Specific precautions may still be put in place due to Covid 19 to ensure everyone's safety. We are currently providing online training, so now is a great time to apply! As we have seen through this crisis, Ombudsmen are needed more than ever.

  • Canyonville, OR Area: Non-medical Hospice Volunteer - Direct Patient

    Canyonville, OR 97417
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

Volunteers get to make their own schedule! Our Non-medical Hospice Direct Care Volunteer provides support to patients living with a terminal illness, in addition to their caregivers and family. Support is provided in a variety of ways, including companionship, socialization, and caregiver relief. There is no medical background needed - our Hospice volunteers do not interact with the patient in any medical or personal hygiene capacity (i.e., volunteers do not give baths, get the patient in/out of bed, or to/from the bathroom, give medication). Some examples of what a Direct Care Volunteer could do: Provide companionship Socialization and/or support to hospice patients and their families/caregivers Reading to the patient Playing games Writing letters to or on behalf of the patient Assisting with light household duties (watering plants, walking pets, washing dishes, emptying and taking out the garbage, etc. Volunteers make their own schedule! We do ask for about 2 hours per visit.
