If you’re a copywriter with experience in email marketing and a passion for helping underserved children gain access to education, keep reading! Oppia is looking for passionate individuals to join our Email Newsletter team to help create and publish our regular newsletter. This will enable us to provide updates to our supporters and raise awareness of the work we’re doing, as well as bring in donations that would help ensure the financial sustainability of the organization and enable Oppia to continue providing free educational services for underserved learners around the world who are unable to afford them. To get started, please fill in this form: https://forms.gle/3pnmkoP6okWrAJQX9 Who We Are The Oppia Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission to provide high quality education to all. We do this through the creation and maintenance of our free-to-use platform, Oppia (https://www.oppia.org), the coordination of our passionate contributors, and the development of critical partnerships with NGOs in the communities we aim to serve. Where You Fit In Millions of children are not receiving the education they deserve. Of the 61 million children worldwide who cannot attend primary school, 17 million will never step foot into a school if trends continue. In the wake of COVID-19, millions more children are also seeing interruptions in their daily lives, stability, and education - making it even more difficult than before for many students to get the education they need to succeed. The learners we serve are typically from low-income families which cannot afford to pay for education; in some cases, the parents may not even have had the opportunity to attend school. Thus, to maintain and improve the services that we offer them, it is important to source donations that allow us to cover their costs. Our opt-in email newsletter gives our supporters a way to follow along with our work and receive updates on the impact of their donations. We are currently seeking strong email marketing copywriters who can help produce and edit content for our email newsletter. You should be someone who is familiar with blogging/article writing, email newsletter strategy, passionate about the problems that Oppia is solving, and excited about community engagement! • Virtual Literacy Tutoring

Support Kid Success through a literacy tutoring program! We know that child literacy is a key indicator of success later in life. Therefore, Brilliant Detroit puts a strong emphasis on early child literacy programs. We work with several partners to provide literacy instruction to students K-3. Each program offers a slightly different experience and schedule. We are happy to connect with you to provide further details and help determine which program would be the best fit for you. There are a few elements that are constant across all of our tutoring offerings, which we have outlined below. Program Details and Next Steps: We are looking for individuals who can commit to volunteering weekly for 30-45 minutes at a time. All of our literacy tutoring programs operate within the window of 4-7pm from Monday to Thursday with a variety of start times in that range. Consistency has shown to make a huge impact on our students' literacy and confidence, so please make sure you are able to attend each week. All of our tutoring programs have students and tutors meet one-on-one via Zoom to read together and engage in literacy games and activities. Some of our programs will offer an in person options for both tutors and students. To become a tutor, one must attend a program training, pass a background check (we cover the cost), and attend a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training. Once we receive your interest in our tutoring programs, we will reach out to you to learn more about you and your goals in volunteering. At that time we will also share more details about our programs and answer any questions you may have. Through this conversation, we will be able to determine which program best suits you.

  • Facilitate virtual Family Feud for older adults

Family Eldercare's Lifetime Connections Without Walls is a virtual activities program for older adults across the country. We offer social and educational sessions by phone and video. We're looking for volunteers to facilitate our 30-minute BRAIN AEROBICS session on Fridays at 1:00 pm-1:30 pm Central Standard Time (CST). The time commitment is about an hour, from 12:45 pm-1:45 pm CST to account for pre and post-session tasks. If every Friday is too much of a commitment, we can create a rotational schedule. Our Brain Aerobics session is Family Feud-style. You pull up Family Feud-type questions online and read them to participants over the phone and they come up with the answers. While we've been using Family Feud-type questions for many years, we are open to changing it up if you have ideas. The goal of the session is to get the brain engaged and have fun! While this volunteer opportunity is virtual, you must live in the U.S. Phone, computer, and internet connection is required, along with positive and fun energy that transfers well over the phone to older adults. Training and ongoing support provided. Thanks so much for considering this opportunity!

  • Refugee youth mentor

Refugee Youth Mentor (Maryland & Virginia): Volunteers are paired with refugee youth (ages 16-24 in MD; 15-24 in VA) to assist with career development and empowerment. Duties vary based on the goals and interests of the youth, but tend to focus on exploring career and educational opportunities, identifying career pathways, assisting with the job search and application process (resumé, cover letter, application, interview), and setting short and long term goals. The goal of the mentorship is to allow the youth to have a mentor that can help navigate US systems, promote civic engagement and leadership opportunities, and provide guidance with various questions and ideas as they begin thinking about future careers or education. Mentors play an integral role in showing mentees the vast array of opportunities that may be available to them in the US, as well as supporting and empowering them to explore these opportunities. Mentoring is virtual now due to COVID and volunteers need to have regular contact with the youth client, ideally once a week or at least once every two weeks. Volunteers are part of the LSSNCA Youth Mentoring Community where there are opportunities for monthly training and development meetings, as well as outside presentations in relevant areas of interest to youth clients. The duration of the mentoring relationship is typically between six months to one year. Please note: We are located in the Washington, DC Metro area, including Maryland and Northern Virginia. • Soft Doll Companions for Seniors

Special Seniors in need of hugs. Some seniors love to carry around baby dolls and soft dolls are easy to wash, dry, disinfect and the patients name can easily be written on the doll to ensure the doll is always returned if misplaced. The dolls are made of fabric and have a soft filling, with any of the facial features sewn on securely for safety purposes and have "somewhat" realistic features. They provide soft hugs and companionship for lonely seniors in nursing facilities, especially the little grandmas that enjoyed taking care of their grandchildren. If you would like to bless a senior with a new soft doll for the holidays, please reach out to me for further information. Tammy Webb, VC @ 210.585.2335 or vc@guidinghospice.com

  • COLUMBIA COUNTY: Volunteer Advocates Needed!

000 Main StreetSt. Helens, OR 97051
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

Many residents in long-term care, such as assisted living or skilled nursing facilities, have no one to speak up for them when their rights are violated. You can amplify their voices to ensure they receive appropriate care, have a fulfilling lifestyle, and are treated with dignity. The mission of Oregon’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman program is to protect individual rights, enhance quality of life, improve care, and promote dignity for residents living in long-term care facilities. Many residents have no one to watch out for them or speak up when things go wrong; call lights go unanswered, meals arrive cold, or medications are given incorrectly. Ombudsman don’t make decisions for the resident, or act as their legal representative, or provide care. It is our role to inform the resident of their rights, and then act upon their decision, resolving it in whatever way necessary. Food runners help to bridge the gap between the kitchen and our guests by bringing delicious food out to our dining area. There are three private showers and three vanities for guests to use. You will provide guests with freshly cleaned towels, washcloths, bath mats, shampoo, conditioner, and other shower supplies at guests' request. After each use, the showers are to be disinfected by spraying the surfaces and then wiping the touch sites with a medical-grade disinfectant that has been allowed to dry. Only female-identified volunteers may volunteer for this position. The wellness desk is where guests can get hygiene supplies and beauty products. Guests can also sign up for Rose Haven's wellness classes and activities. This program allows guests to connect over something other than the challenging circumstances that bring them to the shelter. These activities help empower our guests by giving them opportunities to learn, be creative, heal, and socialize. We are following COVID-19 mask safety protocols inside Rose Haven. We ask volunteers to wear gloves when working in the shower area.

    Portland Metro Area5835 NE 122nd Suite #155Portland, OR 97230
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

Do you have good people skills, enjoy being around people or love to share stories? If so, please consider becoming a patient companion volunteer with Adventist Health Hospice. The main qualities needed to be a patient companion volunteer are an open heart and a listening ear. It is about the gift of your presence and spending just a little of your time to sit with those who are facing terminal illness. Sometimes, it’s just to talk or read or share stories and laughter...at other times...you could help record a life history, or play cards or board games. It’s as individual as you are. A volunteer’s presence helps to lessen a patient’s loneliness by providing companionship. And caregivers find relief when a volunteer comes by to stay with a patient while he or she enjoys some badly needed personal time off. Our volunteers work in the field - in patient’s homes, adult family homes, or nursing homes, wherever a patient might call home. Hours and time commitment are flexible. We offer great training and ongoing support to ensure that you will feel comfortable in your work as a valued member of the Adventist Health Hospice Team! If you feel your heart responding to this type of service, contact us today at hartmakl@ah.org.

Opening a birthday giving chapter is easy, fun, and a great way to give back to the community! Here's how it works: 1. We schedule a video call with you to explain how the process works. 2. Our first choice is to find a Salvation Army location (or another organization that is willing to pick up the birthday bags from your house) that is geographically close to where you live. 3. We contact the Salvation Army (or another organization that is willing to pick up the birthday bags from your house) and explain The Birthday Giving Program's mission. This organization should be able to pick up the birthday bags from your house. 4. You order the birthday bag supplies off of Amazon or another online store and have the gifts shipped to your house. Each birthday bag costs between $5 and $10, depending on how many gifts you decide to put in the bag. Your goal is to provide 10 birthday bags to the organization each month. Each birthday bag includes the same gift items, which will go to kids of a specific age group! 5. Once you have packed the birthday bags, you contact the organization and they pick up the birthday bags from your house! If you are interested in serving the senior citizen or veterans division let us know and we can find an organization to connect you with!

The need for Ombudsmen volunteers is great throughout the state, and we are looking for volunteers in the Florence area. A six-day online training will be scheduled for those who successfully complete the application process. Become someone who can help be a problem solver and advocate for many who cannot speak for themselves. Call the office at 971-600-6149 for more information or apply online by clicking this link: https://form.jotform.com/201555656015048. Special Note: Volunteers are returning to providing in-person visits at long-term care facilities at this time! Specific precautions may still be put in place due to Covid 19 to ensure everyone's safety. We are currently providing online training, so now is a great time to apply! As we have seen through this crisis, Ombudsmen are needed more than ever.
