Oppia is looking for passionate individuals to join our Email Newsletter team to help create and publish our regular newsletter. This will enable us to provide updates to our supporters and raise awareness of the work we’re doing, as well as bring in donations that would help ensure the financial sustainability of the organization and enable Oppia to continue providing free educational services for underserved learners around the world who are unable to afford them. To get started, please fill in this form: https://forms.gle/3pnmkoP6okWrAJQX9 Who We Are The Oppia Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission to provide high quality education to all. We do this through the creation and maintenance of our free-to-use platform, Oppia (https://www.oppia.org), the coordination of our passionate contributors, and the development of critical partnerships with NGOs in the communities we aim to serve. Where You Fit In Millions of children are not receiving the education they deserve. Of the 61 million children worldwide who cannot attend primary school, 17 million will never step foot into a school if trends continue. In the wake of COVID-19, millions more children are also seeing interruptions in their daily lives, stability, and education - making it even more difficult than before for many students to get the education they need to succeed. The learners we serve are typically from low-income families which cannot afford to pay for education; in some cases, the parents may not even have had the opportunity to attend school. Thus, to maintain and improve the services that we offer them, it is important to source donations that allow us to cover their costs. Our opt-in email newsletter gives our supporters a way to follow along with our work and receive updates on the impact of their donations. We are currently seeking strong email marketing copywriters who can help produce and edit content for our email newsletter. You should be someone who is familiar with blogging/article writing, email newsletter strategy, passionate about the problems that Oppia is solving, and excited about community engagement! What our Software Development team contributes Software developers will work closely with other volunteer developers around the world, Oppia's design team, and NGOs in various countries who are in direct contact with students, in order to implement features and key functionality to help learners and translators. The team is very collaborative and has a culture of providing and receiving constructive feedback through code reviews. Some examples of projects we're working on include: Adding functionality in the "contributor dashboard" to ease the process of translating lessons Fixing small issues in the lesson player that confuse students who haven't used a phone before Finding ways to make the site faster and more performant on low-end devices Don't worry if you're new to "open source", or if you're still a student -- many of our contributors are, too, and we'd be more than happy to provide mentorship and support if this is your first time contributing to an open source project! • VIRTUAL My Brothers Keeper Mentoring for Black & Hispanic Male Youth

Through the VIRTUAL My Brothers Keeper mentoring program for Black and Hispanic middle and high school males via Skype or other online video platform. The virtual program will help underserved youth who have not been able to go to school to receive these services, have experienced learning loss in or do not have access to learn computer science, and who need support because they have been impacted more than other students during the COVID-19 health pandemic. Mentors should meet virtually at least 1 hour a week in a 1 on 1 virtual meeting with a student or a group of students. In that meeting, you and the student may discuss any of the following topics: Career and college topics in developing tech skills as well as business skills. Life skills, perseverance, leadership, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, and character development are also important mentoring topics. Business topics our students need are entrepreneurship and tech startup skills development. Some tech topics we hope mentors may also address with the students are cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, software engineering, and physical computing. Volunteers who are STEM, business, and computer science professionals from ethnically diverse backgrounds are especially needed to participate as tech role models for our students so that the young men see people who reflect their identities in the tech industry. In addition, the financial contributions and donations you make to support this program and any help you can provide with fundraising efforts are appreciated. Your support makes our world a better place.

  • Are you a persuasive storyteller? Help Oppia secure grants to support free education

If you’re interested in grantwriting and storytelling for impact, with the aim of helping underserved children gain access to education, this is the volunteer role for you! Oppia is looking for passionate individuals to join our Grants and Fundraising Team to help secure the financial sustainability of the organization and enable Oppia to continue providing free educational services for underserved learners around the world who are unable to afford them. To get started, please fill in this form: https://forms.gle/5hwbq9c6AUYdzFqh7 Who We Are The Oppia Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission to provide high quality education to all. Thus, to maintain and improve the services that we offer to them, it is important to source funding that allows us to cover the cost of offering these services. We generally aim to fund operating expenses through individual donations, but there are several major projects we are undertaking (such as core improvements to the website and Android app based on feedback from learners and volunteers) that will require grant funding in order to succeed. We are currently seeking strong writers who can help with grant and funding applications. This process includes helping to collate impact stories and metrics, describing the organization’s current and proposed activities in a clear and readable way, and compiling the application material for specific grants. We welcome individuals who are willing to learn and grow through this opportunity, and would be happy to guide those without prior experience in grant writing. Why Oppia is an Organization You Want to Work With Oppia has served over 2,000,000 users. Oppia focuses on effectiveness, and conducts rigorous user testing and RCTs to validate the lessons we offer. Learners using Oppia’s lessons have seen gains of 50+% from pre-test to post-test. Oppia's contributors actively help to provide students around the world with basic education. Please see https://medium.com/@ebelubhuhiose/86b97283edf4 and https://medium.com/@ojobusayo99/6e783aaddb74 for examples of our current work. Oppia has a community of hundreds of passionate volunteers from across the globe, so our meetings are held online at flexible times. What Our Grants and Fundraising Team Contributes Develop and submit grant proposals and letters of inquiry. Prepare and compile the components of grant submissions, and ensure that they meet granting agency requirements. Prepare relevant materials to support grants and fundraising activities, such as narratives describing program activities, concept papers, and success stories. If you’d like to help out, please fill in our application form: https://forms.gle/5hwbq9c6AUYdzFqh7 . Thank you!

  • Adult Literacy Tutor-Be the Positive Change in Cleveland (Virtual Tutoring)

Got a soft spot for sentence composition? Love long division or adore algebra? How about sharing your everyday reading, writing, and math skills with a dedicated adult learner in your community? Seeds of Literacy, an award-winning nonprofit organization that provides free GED prep and basic education to adults in the Cleveland area, has an urgent need for people just like you to volunteer as adult literacy tutors. The shocking truth is that an estimated 66% of adults in Cleveland are functionally illiterate, and may struggle with everyday necessities like reading a bus schedule and understanding medication labels. This is where you can make a very real difference! Tutors work one-to-one with students to improve reading, writing, and math skills, offer encouragement and support, and help students develop positive attitudes towards learning. Generally we ask that tutors come to one class session per week for one year. We can, however, make accommodations for those with special circumstances. Classes are two hours long, and we offer a flexible class schedule with sessions scheduled throughout the day to accommodate personal preference and availability. Tutoring sessions take place in our Virtual Classroom on Zoom. You don’t have to be an educator to help - we’ll train you. • Attorneys - help victims of child abuse

Legal services are a frequent need for clients that contact Justice for Children. Keeping their child safe from an abuser may require protective orders, divorce from an abuser, the need to establish or modify child custody and, many times, child support. Many of the victimized children we work with are the product of unmarried parents creating a need for the establishment of paternity. These clients lack the monetary resources to hire attorneys. The abuse of their child and lack of immediate resources to access services desperately places them in a crisis mode and highly emotional making the process even more daunting to them.

  • Compeer Calling Volunteer

WHAT IS THE COMPEER PROGRAM? "Compeer" means a companion who is also a peer or equal. Loneliness, failure, fear and loss of self-esteem are universal experiences of those who suffer from a mental illness. A caring friend can help restore joy and hope to a life that is often empty of both. Compeer volunteers are individuals of all ages, walks of life, races, and religions who enjoy companionship and helping people. Many of them have had experiences with loneliness and difficult times in their own lives, which enables them to bring a special understanding to the Compeer relationship. Help Now! Advocacy is now searching for a new development director who will lead the organization into sustainability as it continues to transform itself and its nationally-unique services from a local organization that has served 9300+ clients over the past 18 years into a virtual and national organization now offering our services through the first-ever national advocacy hotline for individuals and families in crisis. (A national phone company has donated the hotline and all services associated with it to our organization. The individual we are seeking for this position must have prior experience as a non-profit development director or otherwise have considerable knowledge in the area of fundraising and grant writing for non-profits. He or she must also be a creative individual with personal charisma and impeccable credentials. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to get in on the "ground floor" of a unique social service that has the potential to impact the lives of great numbers of Americans. While we are looking for an individual who has the ability to work without pay for a period of time as funding is procured for the position, we also expect this to become a fully paid position with benefits within a reasonable period of time with pay growing as the organization grows. Applicants should be clear that the magnitude of their contributions/funding procured as a volunteer DD will be a very strong consideration when a determination is made by our board of directors as to who fills that paid position. If sustainable funding has been created by this individual while in the volunteer DD position, unless there is some other unforeseen consideration that would come into the hiring assessment, it is highly likely that the individual would be placed in the paid position. Applicants should be clear that, while the magnitude of their contributions as a volunteer ED will be a strong consideration when a determination is made by our board of directors as to who fills that paid position when available, their volunteer ED work is not a guarantee of assuming the paid position. That said, our organization is thoroughly professional and is not looking to take advantage of anyone. • WordPress Plugin & Crowdfund Web Developer - Hedonista Crowdfund

Human sexuality is a taboo subject for open discussion in most countries of the world. Yet the realities of its effect on humanity cannot be ignored. The Hedonista CrowdFund Platform seeks to address sexual pleasure and dysfunction in practical ways that can be personally healing or commercially viable. We seek a volunteer, proficient in WordPress, to help develop a crowdfunding startup for sex-positive entrepreneurs. This crowdfund platform will also provide help to those who have endured sex-negative experiences. Working on our campaign gave us the idea to crowdfund sex-positive ideas that address a personal or societal dysfunction. We would use a similar coding infrastructure as traditional crowdfunding sites such as Kickstarter and GoFundMe. However, there would be additional safeguards and other features to reflect the adult nature of the site. Sex-Positive Funding: There are many ethical and erotic ideas that entrepreneurs have from around the world that they are unable to realize because of a lack of funds. An ethical or activist erotic business is one that addresses problems in human sexuality with a product or service. Sex-Negative Funding: There are many areas of human sexuality which are dysfunctional. In those areas, there are potential products or services that can address areas of sexual dysfunction and make a sustainable income. Being able to raise funds related to sexual healing could address many problems related to the negative effects of sexuality in the world. The Hedonista Crowdfund development project would help people to fulfill their sensual entrepreneur dreams or escape sexual nightmares. Dysfunctional sexuality the root of so many problems in societies. This project has the potential to reach every citizen of every country in the world. Our site is in Wordpress. There are currently crowdfund plugins that we can use to implement a crowdfund on our site.

  • VETERAN TO VETERAN

    Harrisburg, PA 17110
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

Homeland Hospice is privileged to serve Military Veterans and is associated with the "We Honor Veterans Program." To support our veterans, Homeland understands that we must understand the unique physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual end-of-life challenges that many veterans face. We must understand how to specifically address those challenges to provide quality care and our Veteran volunteers play a key role in Homeland Hospice being able to do that. Homeland Hospice offers several opportunities for Veterans to serve Veterans: * VETERAN COMPANIONSHIP - Veteran Volunteers have the unique ability to relate and connect with Veteran patients and their families. Through this companion relationship patients and volunteer tend to share in the camaraderie of the military experience. *VETERAN APPRECIATION - Homeland Hospice staff also like to show their respect to, and share their thanks with, patient Veterans through pinning ceremonies. Veteran Volunteers are welcomed and encouraged to be part of these ceremonies as we publicly acknowledge the military service and sacrifices made by the Veteran and his/her family. *SITTING WITH VETERAN AT THE END OF LIFE - come along side a Veteran who is actively dying. Volunteers may be by the bedside of a person who would otherwise die alone, or they may be present with family, simply being there when the family needs a break, a hug or someone to talk to. Please contact us if you feel that you are being drawn to serve fellow Veterans in any one of these ways. Volunteers can select where they are comfortable serving - near home or work, personal homes or facilities. Thank you for your service and for the freedom and protection that you have provided to us! *The Homeland Hospice office is located in Harrisburg, but serves 14 counties in South Central PA, including - Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Northumberland, Perry, Schuylkill, York. Harrisburg, PA 17110
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR RESIDENTS IN THE HARRISBURG, PA AREA Share your culinary talents! Simply make a little extra when cooking for yourself and/or your family! The end-of-life journey is a time when extra comfort and support is needed as patients and their families are often fatigued physically, emotionally and spiritually. A simple home-cooked soup or casserole that can be taken from the freezer, heated, and enjoyed is a huge blessing. It's comfort for the belly! HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS: 1. Contact Laurie Murry, Volunteer Coordinator to share your interest. 2. Purchase, pick up (at the Homeland Hospice office) or have delivered to your home, the materials that are needed (listed below). We understand that not everyone may be able to purchase the needed materials, but if you can, it is a huge help not only financially, but also in helping to save a lot of staff time. 3. Prepare soups and casseroles. Perhaps you cook a little extra when making your own meal or maybe you have left overs that would make a delicious casserole or soup. All of the meals can be the same, or they can be varied, that is up to you. 4. Complete an info sheet that includes the ingredients (due to allergies) and warming instructions. The Information sheet is provided by Homeland Hospice. 5. Wrap the casseroles in foil (no lids, please. They come off and are hard to work with), place casserole or soup in a gallon freezer bag, along with your information sheet, and freeze. 4. When you have several meals, either deliver them to Homeland Hospice (schedule a time with the volunteer coordinator), or schedule a time for the volunteer coordinator to pick up. Again, if you are able to deliver, that is very helpful! 5. The casseroles and soups are kept in a freezer at Homeland Hospice and delivered by staff and/or a volunteer to families as they need them. MATERIALS NEEDED: (these can either be provided by Homeland Hospice or purchased/picked-up by the volunteer) 1. 8" x 8" aluminum casserole pans and/or 32 ounce plastic soup containers 2. Aluminum Foil - to wrap the casseroles 3. Gallon Size Freezer Bags - to place the casseroles and soups in (the 8" x 8" pans fit nicely!). The freezer bag helps to ensure that the meals arrive to the patients/families in the best possible condition - no freezer burn, foil in-tact, and recipe information is included. 4. Meal Ingredient list and rewarming instructions - provided by Homeland Hospice During any interactions with Homeland Hospice Staff, masks will be worn and social distancing will occur.

MAKE A DOG-GONE DIFFERENCE IN A HOSPICE PATIENT'S DAY! Share your four-legged best friend and provide comfort, peace, and soothing companionship to terminally ill patients receiving services from Homeland Hospice! A half hour/hour visit between a patient and an animal promotes activity, conversation and emotional connection. Often, simply the presence of the dog, cat, rabbit, or other pet is all that is required to promote the positive effects. However, patients, caregivers and family can interact with your best friend as they would with any pet: Tossing a ball or toy for the animal to fetch Enjoying the presence of the animal in silence Talking to, petting, holding, hugging or cuddling with the animal Enjoying playful animal tricks and commands such as sitting, rolling over, or shaking hands Pets and handlers must be certified. Pet certification organizations, like K-Pets or Caring Hearts Pet therapy, offer courses that allow handlers and their pets to learn techniques that help to ensure the utmost safety for the patients and for the animal. Obtaining certification allows both handler and animal to have the training needed to be prepared to interact with patients, caregivers, and families. Requirements for pets making visits include: Being effectively house trained Having no history of aggressive behavior and welcome human interaction Displaying obedience to commands such as "sit," "stay", and "come." Having all appropriate and up-to-date vaccinations Being of a certain age depending on species Hospice pet visits are so much more than a simple visit with an animal. Animals and their handlers have the unique ability to bring transformative joy and comfort to patients. Hospice pet visits, using the longstanding bond between humans and animals, brings joy, humor, unconditional love, and soothing companionship to those on the end-of-life journey. Volunteers must complete an orientation program which can be done as a self study in the comfort of your home and at your own pace. Volunteers also must complete a background check and 2- Step PPD (TB) Test. Any costs are paid for by Homeland Hospice. Many people state that their preferred place of death is to die at home. Unfortunately, some dying people are not able to realize this wish as there has to be a good plan in place - meaning, enough people and resources to keep that person at home. You can help Homeland Hospice with granting this wish to more people by assisting with seasonal yard work, and small building and home repair projects. Spring clean-up, mowing grass, raking leaves, shoveling snow, changing a light bulb, once an everyday task, can become impossible for Hospice patients and their families. Whether you are part of a group looking for a single day project, or you are an individual able to commit to helping every week, Homeland Hospice would welcome your service and time. We will do our best to match you with the right project to benefit one or more of our patients. Specific help is needed now in the Gardners, PA area. *All CDC guidelines are followed and volunteers are educated on Covid-19 safety protocol.
