Volunteers would be expected to complete approximately fourteen hours of online training on being a literacy tutor and working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Once training is complete we ask that volunteers commit to one hour a week of one-on-one tutoring for a minimum of three months but we would of course prefer that they stick around longer! Funded by two grants from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) and led by the Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL), RAMP TMis being implemented across the country by state and local organizations with expertise in mentoring, youth development, juvenile justice, and disability. The RAMP TMmodel uses a combination of group, peer, and one-on-one mentoring to promote the successful transition of RAMP TMyouth to employment, continued learning opportunities, and independent living. Youth participate in weekly career preparation-focused group meetings, including peer-supported goal setting and exploration of careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Each youth meets regularly one-on-one with a mentor to develop and implement an Individualized Mentoring Plan (IMP). Mentors are caring adults recruited from the community, schools, employers, and partner organizations. Youths’ families, teachers, and support network are engaged in career fairs, college visits, and extended learning activities. At the end of the program, each group of youth works with an industry advisor to complete a high-tech project. While in RAMP TM, youth have the opportunity to assess and explore their own career interests; develop a plan and set goals for their transition; create a resource map of their community’s high-tech industries; gain workplace soft skills; build resume-writing and interviewing skills; interact with employers and experience a variety of work settings; give and receive peer support; take advantage of group and personal leadership opportunities; design and build a high-tech-related team project, and most importantly... have fun!     Project Canis is a new nonprofit organization started by students at the University of Florida to ensure that every shelter animal has a toy. ​Project Canis helps cats and dogs in Florida shelters by making and donating pet toys made from recycled materials. Many animal shelters struggle to get donations and are not financially able to provide toys, which are essential to animals' emotional and physical well-being. Anyone can participate in Project Canis remotely by sending in toys they made individually or as a service project with their organization. We have three toy designs: the braid, the plushie, and the crunch that can be made easily with recycled materials such as old t-shirts and plastic water bottles.     The Neighborhood Stories Project is a storytelling initiative by the NYC Department of Records and Information Services (DORIS) with the mission of recording the memories of New York City residents through a series of oral history interviews. These interviews will be preserved in perpetuity at DORIS - connecting local history with the records of City government maintained in the collections of the Municipal Archives and Library.     Support Kid Success through a literacy tutoring program! We know that child literacy is a key indicator of success later in life. Therefore, Brilliant Detroit puts a strong emphasis on early child literacy programs. We work with several partners to provide literacy instruction to students K-3. Each program offers a slightly different experience and schedule. We are happy to connect with you to provide further details and help determine which program would be the best fit for you. There are a few elements that are constant across all of our tutoring offerings, which we have outlined below. Program Details and Next Steps: We are looking for individuals who can commit to volunteering weekly for 30-45 minutes at a time. All of our literacy tutoring programs operate within the window of 4-7pm from Monday to Thursday with a variety of start times in that range. Consistency has shown to make a huge impact on our students' literacy and confidence, so please make sure you are able to attend each week. All of our tutoring programs have students and tutors meet one-on-one via Zoom to read together and engage in literacy games and activities. Some of our programs will offer an in person options for both tutors and students. To become a tutor, one must attend a program training, pass a background check (we cover the cost), and attend a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training.     Do you believe that residents in nursing homes and assisted livings deserve quality care? Do you think that they need an advocate to make sure that happens?Then look no further! Become an Ombudsman Volunteer Associate and be an advocate for the residents. Ombudsman volunteers are the eyes and ears in making sure residents are receiving quality care and have a great quality of life. Our volunteers inform residents and families about resident rights and provide a voice for residents if there are concerns regarding their care and treatment. This is done by also assisting our staff in investigating the complaints and being the advocate for change. Volunteers can also assist with our services including: working with resident and family councils; helping people select a provider; helping to educate the community about our program, services, and volunteer opportunities; and other projects We have free certification training (in-person or virtual) which includes classroom work, self-study exercises, and shadowing opportunities. After the certification exam, we ask for at least 4 hours of service a month and to obtain continuing education which will be provided by our office. ***We are not able to fill court-ordered community service requests at this time.*** Volunteer with us and help us support this part of your community!

Volunteer with Hospice of Central Ohio at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (ICC-OSUWMC) to provide an ambassador presence and limited administrative support in alignment with current pandemic safety protocol. Lend a smile and greet and screen all ICC visitors for COVID, per screening procedures (new ICC volunteer staff will be trained in these procedures upon arrival for their first shift).
