Commitment: ESOL Teachers are asked to commit to 2 hours, one day a week for at least one semester (Sept-Jan or Feb-June). However, if a teacher would like to be more involved, he/she is always welcome. • Support our Children to Reach Their Full Potential - afterschool enrichment/homework help

Before COVID, the young people of Garden Court would be able to come into the community room in the office, work on their homework and engage in the daily enrichment projects. With COVID, we have had to make some adjustments. The programming is online, the kids can only interact virtually, and some of the activities have had to be adjusted or cut. Here's where YOU come in. Because of the different grade levels, some young people need assistance with different things. However, as only one person, even with the use of break-out rooms, I am not able to assist everyone. I need someone to be able to supervise some kids while I work with other ones, and be able to continue to assist them in gaining their skills in Leadership, Social-Emotional learning, and academic achievement. You will be assisting in helping run program activities, assisting with reading comprehension questions, games, and behavior management, while getting to know some amazing young people. You will also be attending virtual trainings with the Denver Afterschool Alliance, so that you can continuously work on the fundamentals, while staying updated on the current brain science around youth learning and development. Most importantly, though, you'll have some fun! Especially during these times, this is very life-changing work, and I appreciate you for stepping up and wanting to perform.

  • Guided Meditation Volunteer

For over a year, GMHC's staff have been providing nearly all services to clients remotely, with a couple of exceptions. We have recently been distributing food pantry bags from our lobby every Wednesday, as well as offering by-appointment-only HIV/STI tests at The Testing Center. Like so many others, our staff have been providing services to our clients during this difficult time from their own homes. This new normal of working from home because of the COVID-19 pandemic has meant that in addition to their workload, staff are also acting as teachers for their children who are learning remotely and providing additional care and support to family and friends. To offer a quiet break during the week for our staff, I am seeking a volunteer who can provide guided meditation approximately twice a month via zoom. Please note that all volunteers are required to complete a background check. We will need your consent and it will only be initiated after you have completed the volunteer orientation, application, and interview. We will require proof of a certification and/or prior guided meditation experience. GMHC’s Mission: GMHC fights to end the AIDS epidemic and uplift the lives of all affected. We provide HIV and STI testing, food and nutrition programs, housing support, workforce development, legal assistance, advocacy for benefits and health insurance, mental health and emotional support, substance use counseling, and more.

Who We Are The Oppia Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the mission to provide high quality education to all. We do this through the creation and maintenance of our platform, Oppia (http://www.oppia.org), the coordination of our passionate contributors, and the development of critical partnerships with NGOs in the communities we aim to serve. Even before COVID-19, students around the world were facing difficulties accessing quality education due to conflict, discrimination, lack of teacher training, and more. However, with COVID-19 forcing everyone to stay quarantined in their own homes, students now more than ever need access to free, quality education to ensure that they can continue to learn even if they cannot attend school. Where You Fit In Millions of children are not receiving the education they deserve. Of the 61 million children worldwide who cannot attend primary school, 17 million will never step foot into a school if trends continue. And, unfortunately, even those students who are in school may not receive the effective education they need. Our community of volunteers has created a series of mathematics lessons that have proved highly engaging and effective with English-speaking students, including in a randomized controlled trial. We now want to expand the reach of these lessons by translating them into Telugu. This language is a particular focus because we already have students who speak them who are interested in using our lessons. We are looking for native or native-level speakers of Vietnamese to translate the lessons, in written and audio form (it’s fine if you just want to do one of these). Why Oppia is an Organization You Want to Work With Oppia has served over 1,100,000 users. Oppia’s current library consists of more than 20,000 lessons. Oppia focuses on effectiveness. Our continuous improvement process involves rigorous user testing and RCTs to ensure we create high quality educational materials catered to the needs of our most underserved global learners. Oppia consists of passionate volunteers from across the globe, so our meetings are held online at flexible times. What Our Translation Team contributes Adding written translations of lessons to other languages. Adding audio dubbing of lessons in other languages, to help students whose reading skills are weaker. Advising on any barriers that students from different cultures might encounter when understanding and relating to the stories we have written to motivate the lessons.

It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

Bridge House: Board Member Roles and Responsibilities About Bridge House A Clubhouse is a community-based program specifically designed to help individuals overcome the disruptive effects of mental illness and rebuild the hope and opportunities needed for recovery. One in four people will experience mental illness in their lifetime and one in 25 will be challenged with serious mental illness like schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, and major depression. Founded in 1986, Bridge House provides a refuge from social isolation for approximately 225 active members. Bridge House’s education, employment and housing assistance programs provide important avenues for reintegration with the community. Successful Clubhouses adhere to the International Standards for Clubhouse Programs(tm) (Standards) which define the Clubhouse Model of psychosocial rehabilitation. Bridge House is the only Accredited Clubhouse in Southern Connecticut. There are more than 300 Clubhouses in the world, more than 200 of which are in the US. At U.S. Clubhouses like Bridge House, virtually all members are low-income, or "no income" when they arrive. Expectations of the Board as a Whole Determining and supporting the mission and purposes of the organization. Fundraising and resource development. Recruitment of Board nominees who can make significant contributions to the success of Bridge House. Strategic and organizational planning. Enhancing Bridge House’s public image. Assessing its own performance as the governing body of Bridge House. Expectations of Each Individual Board Member Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs. Commit to an annual $2,500 "give or get" financial contribution to Bridge House. Faithfully read and understand the organization’s financial statements. Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization. Fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for Bridge House to advance its mission. Help identify personal connections that can benefit the organization. Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings. Follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions. Sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings. Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of Bridge House. COVID-19 and the resulting pandemic has had an enormous impact on the lives of individuals. Arguably, few populations have been as impacted by the forced social isolation required to manage infection rates as those who live with a serious mental illness; the very activity that will keep them physically safe requires of them to embrace, full-time, the same primary indicator that often arises when a serious mental illness is not under control: physical isolation. Few populations are also as affected by the employment ramifications of the current pandemic as people living with serious and persistent mental illness. COVID-19 requires a wholesale shift in our approach, and this project represents that.

Volunteers who can give us two hours on one or more Wednesdays between 10:45 am and 1 pm or 1 pm to 3pm are needed between Wednesday, May 12 and Thanksgiving, to ensure vendors and shoppers are observing social distancing, mask, and hand sanitizing protocols, to staff information tables with nutritional information, and lend a hand during our COVID19-modified Healthy Back to School and Eating Well days during national Health Center Week in August. Bilingual Spanish/English desirable but not required. Volunteers will be provided with masks. Our Market will be opening for the 2021 season on Wednesday, May 12 and will return every Wednesday from 11 am to 3 pm until Thanksgiving. Norwalk Community Health Center hosts a public Farmer's Market in its parking lot every Wednesday in season. It has provided access to fresh fruit, vegetables, eggs, honey, and plants for the past 10 years and fills an important and growing need for our patients and in our neighborhood. The Health Center's Farmer's Market voucher program, funded by individual contributions and support from organizations such as Newman's Own Foundation, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and others makes fresh produce more affordable as well more accessible to food-insecure patients by stretching their food dollars. More than 300 patient families used these vouchers to shop at our Farmer’s Market for seasonal local produce in 2020. We anticipate an even busier season in 2021. Corporate, Faith-based or other Groups - together or with one or more members rotating from week to week- are welcome.

You do not need to be in recovery to be a meeting facilitator. Your task will be to chair the meeting, set the agenda, and teach SMART Recovery tools when appropriate. You will need to pass an online training course, which costs $99 and requires 20-30 hours work over 6 weeks. There is a standing scholarship for this course for facilitators in New England. At the moment almost all meetings are online on the Zoom platform, using Zoom host accounts assigned by SMART Recovery USA. Our existing volunteers will assist in finding a location for a meeting, and in publicizing the meeting. We will also help facilitate the first few meetings until you are comfortable facilitating on your own. Our other facilitators will be able to stand in for you from time to time so that your meeting still takes place. Meeting participants are currently highly motivated individuals who seek out alternatives to traditional 12-step based programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous. The international SMART Recovery web site is at http://smartrecovery.org, and the details on facilitator training are at http://www.smartrecovery.org/facldtrain/ The local SMART Recovery web site is http://www.smartrecoveryct.org/ and we're on Facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/SMARTRecoveryCT) and Meetup ( http://www.meetup.com/SMART-Recovery-Connecticut/) We do have other, related, volunteer needs if facilitating a meeting is not for you.

We contact the Salvation Army (or another organization that is willing to pick up the birthday bags from your house) and explain The Birthday Giving Program's mission. Each birthday bag includes the same gift items, which will go to kids of a specific age group! 5. • Remote Learning Classroom Monitor

    13 Rose StreetDanbury, CT 06810
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

As part of Jericho's service to Danbury's at-risk youth and their families, Jericho is providing space and support for Danbury public school students whose parents would otherwise have to quit jobs or stay home from work to be with children on remote learning. Jericho is operating a COVID-safe program, with only 6-7 students in each classroom, social distancing, mask requirements, sanitizing, etc. The program runs week days, 8:00 am to 4:00 p.m. Classroom Monitors serve a two-hour shift (as often as you desire), providing supervision to students engaged in remote learning, helping them log in to various online classrooms when needed (basic knowledge of navigating the Google Classroom/internet is necessary), supervising lunch, ensuring COVID-19 rule compliance, and during the afternoon, engage in and supervise free-time activities. Students sometimes ask for assistance with their school assignments.
