Lesley Stewart

Busy New Yorker Lesley Stewart is an excellent model for skilled volunteers around the country who want to put their knowledge and experience to good use.

A human resources professional, she also volunteers with the American Red Cross in Greater New York as their Internship Recruitment Volunteer, an opportunity that she found on VolunteerMatch.

"One position in particular required recruitment experience and I thought it would be a good fit and contacted the Red Cross," said Stewart.

As VolunteerMatch was what first helped Stewart to get involved, it makes sense that she now uses the online resource to post volunteer opportunities and recruit skilled people like herself to help out.

"I receive a number of applications through VolunteerMatch, many of whom have been placed as interns within the Red Cross," she said.

Although Stewart's primary role for the chapter is as a recruiter, she recognizes that her job doesn't end once she brings people in the door. In fact, one of her biggest challenges is ensuring that the interns have meaningful experiences.

Despite the challenge, she's succeeding with flying colors. And as with any successful volunteer program, her hard work does not go unnoticed.

According to her supervisor, Adela Rodriquez, "She is an asset to our team and enjoys working with our student population."

Amid all the hard work, Stewart notes that one of the things she most enjoys about her role is "the feeling of satisfaction I get from helping New Yorkers in need."

In a city of so many, where an organization like the Red Cross is so important, this is no small amount of satisfaction.
