The mission of the Battered Women's Shelter is to lead the community in the prevention of domestic abuse by providing emergency shelter, advocacy and education throughout Summit and Medina County, all in an effort to break the cycle of abuse and help promote peace in every family.
Since the agency's inception in 1977, available services to the community has grown and BWS is able to provide support to victims of domestic violence through a 24 hour toll-free hotline, emergency food, clothing, and shelter, early intervention classes, case management, court advocacy, youth advocacy, crisis intervention for children who have witnessed violence, preventive education, transitional housing, community support groups and outreach education.
Currently, BWS is the ONLY provider of free-of-cost shelter and specialized services to victims of domestic violence, and their children, within a two county radius.
