NC GreenPower is an independent, nonprofit organization established to improve North Carolina's environment through voluntary contributions toward renewable energy and the mitigation of greenhouse gases. A landmark initiative approved by the N.C. Utilities Commission, NC GreenPower is the first statewide green energy program in the nation supported by all the state's utilities and administered by Advanced Energy, an independent nonprofit corporation located in Raleigh, N.C.
The goal of NC GreenPower is to supplement the state's existing power supply with more green energy - electricity generated from renewable resources like the sun, wind and organic matter. As of 2008, NC GreenPower also offers carbon offsets to address growing concerns about the impact of greenhouse gases on the environment. The program accepts financial contributions from citizens and businesses to help offset the cost to produce green energy.
One of our main marketing activities is our Speakers Bureau. The NC GreenPower Speakers Bureau was created to help meet the demands for presentations to various groups throughout North Carolina. Their purpose is to educate North Carolinians about renewable energy, carbon offsets and their availability through NC GreenPower. It also generates participation in NC GreenPower through corporate and residential contributions. Anyone may be trained to serve as a volunteer for the Speakers Bureau.
Training sessions are periodically held for new speakers. These sessions include tips about presenting, speaking points regarding the program, and instructions for using the speaker toolkit, provided at no cost.
Mission Statement
NC GreenPower is a statewide program designed to improve the quality of the environment by encouraging the development of renewable energy resources through consumers' voluntary funding of green power purchases by electric utilities in North Carolina and the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions through consumers' voluntary funding of carbon offsets. The program revenues will help provide financial incentives for generators of electricity from renewable sources and for developers of projects mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.
