Help us prepare meals to send home with the families that shop at our market! Though we had to close our dining area due to COVID, we are grateful to continue to have the opportunity to provide meals to our clients. The meals are prepared onsite by our chefs with the help of many wonderful volunteers. They are safely stored, and then they are sent home with the clients with reheating instructions so that they can be enjoyed as family meals in the home. The River is the largest and busiest food pantry in Dane County, distributing groceries each week to over 1000 households. We are distributing boxes of groceries for curbside pickup outside of our facility. We need volunteers to help sort donations, pack boxes of groceries, and carry the boxes out to the clients. On Mondays, volunteers will be sorting and preparing for the curbside market. Tuesdays through Fridays, the market will be hosting curbside distribution, so volunteers will either be sorting, preparing boxes and carts of groceries, or loading groceries into clients' vehicles. Volunteers are needed: Monday 9:00am - 11:00am 11:00am - 1:00pm Tuesday, Thursday 9:15 am-11:45 am 11:30 am-1:30 pm 1:15 pm-3:15 pm Wednesday 11:00 pm-2:00 pm 1:45 pm-4:00 pm 3:45 pm-6:15 pm Friday 9:45 am-11:45 am 11:30 am-1:30 pm 1:15 pm-3:15 pm We are looking for healthy volunteers ages 16 and up. We need volunteers to help distribute lunches to youth and their families in neighborhoods around Madison. There is room for one volunteer to ride along in the MUNCH van, but we also need a volunteer to follow the van driving their personal vehicle. The River Food Pantry, serving over 1,000 diverse households each week, is South Central Wisconsin’s busiest food pantry.
Our services include free groceries for curbside pickup or delivery, freshly prepared to-go meals, and mobile lunches for children and families in low-income neighborhoods.
More than just a food pantry, we build community by offering opportunities to serve, donate, and collaborate. We also partner with local organizations to minimize food waste and improve access to reliable sources of food.
Since opening in 2006, our vision is to achieve a fully nourished community.
