Mission Statement

Improve youth literacy and spread the joy of reading through volunteerism.

Description

Be a kid again and use your spirit to inspire first graders to start a lifelong love of reading! Ready to Learn (RTL) is a volunteer run organization and for more than 12 years, volunteers have helped first grade students from an under served Los Angeles community improve their reading and English language abilities.

Volunteers with the Ready to Learn program spend one Saturday morning per month working directly with the children, either one-on-one or in small groups. Listen to the children read, assist them as necessary, and document the number of books and pages read. Each session also includes a super fun art project. No teaching or art experience is necessary.

We believe, and educators agree, that reading is the most fundamental skill needed by students to ensure academic success and a brighter future. We look forward to having you help us make a positive impact on the futures of the children at 49th Street Elementary School.

Please invite colleagues, family, and friends to also attend, and follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
