Volunteer Guardians

A legal guardian is a decision maker and an advocate for those who are incompetent due to aging, a developmental disability, chronic mental illness or alcohol and drug abuse (i.e. ward). Guardians ensure that the individual’s rights to proper housing, nutrition, and medical care are met. A guardian is expected to visit their ward at least once a month and complete an annual report. A legal guardian does not financially support the ward, take care of the ward on a day to day basis, nor personally provide a place for the ward to live.

Parent Pal

The Parent Pals Program of Brown County Health & Human Services Department is in need of volunteer mentors to work with parents on issues such as daily living skills including budgeting, parenting, household routine, meal planning, or just being an emotionally supportive friend for an overwhelmed parent. Volunteers see their parent at least three times per month and can make phone calls in addition to this requirement. Matches are made based on compatibility. Orientation, training, and match support are provided. Mileage reimbursement is provided upon request.

Pals Activity Chaperones

Chaperones spend time with a youth in the Pals Program by attending the program’s monthly group activities. The Pals Program is a mentoring program of Brown County Health & Human Services. Children in the program are age 3 or older from a family that has been or is currently involved with Brown County Child Protective Services. The children needing a chaperone do not have an adult who is able to bring them to the activity to allow them to participate.

Volunteer Drivers

Volunteer Drivers: This program is in need of people who are able to pick children up from their current living arrangement or daycare and bring them to visits with their biological parents. Car seats are provided to the driver for each drive you commit to helping with. All volunteers are able to be reimbursed for their mileage! We are looking for people who are able to have consistent weekly drives, but can find other coverage should you need that day off! Time commitment is what you make it- drives vary from 15 minutes-2 hours based on your availability. You will work closely with Courtney Thorne to ensure all of your questions are answered and you are supported throughout your volunteer experience!

Family Interaction Program

Family Interaction Program : Volunteers support children in out-of-home care by supervising the family interaction with their parents. The volunteers help to assure a safe and secure environment both physically and emotionally for the children.

Description

The Volunteer Programs administered through the Brown County Health and Human Services Department are designed to complement and enhance the services provided to the community by our program units. Our Volunteer Coordinators are also licensed Social Workers that follow industry standards for volunteer practices, which translates to a very professional experience for our volunteers. All of our programs include orientation and training.
