Mission Statement

Circle of Friends for Mental Health, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, exists to improve the lives of people burdened with mental illness, addiction, and homelessness through programs in visual arts, music, writing, drama, dance and photography. Our programs serve as a natural enduring catalyst to aid people in their recovery and self-healing. The people we serve have wide-ranging needs, and come from diverse cultural, social and economic backgrounds.

Description

Our vision of "unearthing voices & healing through art" is based on our belief that artistic expression combined with the cultivation of caring communities consitute a profound means for experiencing self-love. Such a service seems particularly vital in addressing the needs of our most vulnerable & marginalized members of society who live each day with a severe mental illness. Art is one of the most powerful tools through which we can explore our own vibrant voices and ultimately open our eyes to the worlds within one another.

We find that our services are deeply appreciated, and our volunteers' experiences are life-altering and rewarding. The only thing stopping us from serving more people right now is our need for more enthusiastic, compassionate volunteer art teachers!
