Is giving back to the community on your list of goals for 2024 or have you been thinking about how you can create a positive impact in your community? You can make a difference in the fight against Alzheimer's by joining the Volunteer Walk Committee for the Walk to End Alzheimer's - San Diego or North County. The Walk Planning Committee NEEDS YOU as our Community Engagement Chair. In this role you will serve as a volunteer leader of the Community Engagement Committee. The Community Engagement Committee is vital to the success of the Walk as it helps to increase awareness about the Walk to End Alzheimer's and our mission. The committee works on retention and recruitment of Walk teams, connecting with and getting to know our our Walk Champions members, and helping to organize a Community Kickoff event in the summer then having a wonderful time on Walk day! As the Chair of this committee you will help recruit for and the lead the committee to success by ensuring all the necessary resources so each member can recruit community teams, invite our past walkers back, implement marketing and awareness building campaigns, and more. Is this you? Join a group of caring volunteers that are passionate about the cause and ending Alzheimer's. Doing so will help families everywhere facing this disease, include more than 60,000 right here in San Diego. PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY COMMUNITY EDUCATORS Alzheimer's Association Community Educators are volunteer public speakers who provide in-person Alzheimer's Association education programs to community audiences. KEY ACTIVITIES: Deliver approximately 12 presentations annually using prepared Alzheimer’s Association consumer education programs on a variety of care and support topics. Collaborate with local Association staff to expand programs by securing community partners, scheduling presentations, delivering the programs, and managing technology needs. Serve as virtual presenter for chapter-scheduled education programs and conferences. Connect people with additional Association services and volunteer opportunities by proactively making referrals to Alzheimer's Association programs & free 24/7 Helpline. QUALIFICATIONS: Passionate about the Alzheimer’s Association mission with personal or professional experience with dementia preferred but not required. Communicate effectively and deliver Core Curriculum (Common Programs) presentations and information to the community. Serve as presenter for chapter-scheduled education programs and conferences. Demonstrated success with health education using excellent communication, virtual presentation and adult education skills. Excellent technology skills and comfort delivering programs independently. Adhere to Alzheimer's Association’s established curricula and position statements. Work with Alzheimer’s Association staff partners to identify and coordinate education programs that reach target audiences. Coordination includes securing program partner, scheduling, preparing presentations, and managing needed materials. A Community Educator will be paired with either a staff member or Program Tech Support volunteer to assist with delivering programs & moderating Q&A. Ability to network, and collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community partners. Connect members of the community with additional Association services by proactively making referrals to Alzheimer's Association programs & free 24/7 Helpline. Must be age 21 to apply. Background checks are required. Must have reliable transportation Laptop recommended but not required DAYTIME/WEEKDAY AVAILABILITY REQUIRED Some local travel necessary for delivery of programs Good command of the English language required Bilingual (Spanish and/or Mandarin) strongly encouraged Candidate MUST reside in the US COMMITMENT EXPECTED: Community Educators commit to delivering a target of 12 presentations annually. 6 month to 1 year commitment required 3-6 hours per month approximately Currently not accepting applications for meeting school hours requirements All program volunteers participate in initial training and ongoing education and must comply with Alzheimer’s Association volunteer policies and procedures. Setting goals and objectives will be an integral part of the role Terms are renewable upon successful completion of annual goal-setting conversation with your staff partner.
