The Fabric of Life Foundation is a DBA of the Schillios Development Foundation, a 501(c)(3) corporation.
Carol Schillios, the head of the Schillios Development Foundation, works with micro-credit and micro-enterprise development in developing credit movements in Africa, Asia, Indonesia, and Eastern Europe. Her foundation teaches micro-credit strategies, micro-enterprise development and solidarity group lending practices to clients.
The Fabric of Life Foundation works at several different locations. First there is the Hèrè jè Training Center in Mali. The goal is to help begging girls develop a sustainable income. The Hèrè jè Center trains women in their program in healthcare, life skills, and literacy in addition to fabric-making and beading skills. The goal is for these girls to be able to generate a steady income upon leaving the center with the skills and knowledge of how to manage their money.
The Fabric of Life boutique, in Edmonds, Washington, sells the girls' fabrics and beading at a fair price (and a few other fair trade products). The store is run by volunteers so the maximum profits from sales goes to the support the center and to further developing the Hèrè jè program to take additional street children off the streets.
The Schillios development foundation also works in Senegal at their Ndiaw Ndiaw Credit Union, giving micro loans to struggling rural families. In Zimbabwe, supporting a repatriation program for Zimbabwe nationals runs by Mard Matenda. Two additional programs are a health clinic in Basari Province in Nepal and the Guinea Kids Education Fund that supports school fees for children in a village.

Mission Statement
The non-profit Schillios Development Foundation (the "Foundation") is an international economic development foundation whose primary purpose is to support cooperative and credit union activities that improve the quality of life for poor families and their communities. The Foundation educates people - primarily women - in the cooperative principles of self help, thrift, social responsibility, education, non-discrimination, and cooperation among cooperatives.
Specifically, the mission of the Foundation is to create, fund and/or form partnerships with programs that promote:
- Cooperatives and/or credit unions for economically disadvantaged populations in developing countries.
- Micro-enterprises for the poorest of the poor in economically under-developed communities.
- Micro-credit -- small loans without collateral -- primarily to women entrepreneurs who would otherwise be unable to obtain credit.
- Basic education as well as specialized training for entrepreneurs and their families.
- Affordable health care in the communities served.
- Education of people in the United States about economic development issues in less developed parts of the world.
- Any other developed activity that the Foundation's Board of Directors sees as being beneficial to the target community.
