Rhode Islanders Sponsoring Education (RISE)

Mentor, Keith, and his mentee, JJ, spend time together at a special event in October called the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular. Over 10,000 pumpkins are festively carved and located around Roger Williams Park Zoo.

Approximately 4,000 children and youth in Rhode Island alone, have a parent incarcerated. 200 children are receiving RISE services. RISE offers Community-Based Mentoring, Tuition Scholarships and supplemental services to children and youth with a parent in prison. Additional supports can help these students achieve higher grades, increase attendance records and improve their confidence and self-esteem.

Mission Statement

The mission of RISE is to provide mentoring and educational opportunities to children and youth of currently and formerly incarcerated parents. Our hope is to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty, crime and addiction that too often threatens them.
