Mission Statement

The Friends of the National Arboretum (FONA) is an independent, non-profit organization established to enhance, through public and private sector resources, support for the U.S. National Arboretum.

Description

FONA provides valuable financial and volunteer support to the U.S. National Arboretum, especially for internship programs, maintenance of the gardens and collections, community outreach, and a variety of projects including the Washington Youth Garden, Flowering Tree Walk, refurbishment of the Capitol Columns, and restoration of the Anacostia watershed. The Washington Youth Garden serves DC children and families with the establishment of school gardens, enriching science learning, inspiring environmental stewardship, and cultivating healthy food choices.

It was an amazing experience to be in nature and help to preserve the Anacostia River through my plantings.
