Description

The Forsyth County Child Advocacy Center is a child focused, home like facility that combines the resources and efforts of many local agencies and organizations to create a caring, effective team approach in dealing with victims of physical/sexual abuse and their families. This includes: Law Enforcement, Department of Family and Children Services, the District Attorney's Office, Juvenile Court, the Victim Advocate's Unit, Mental Health and Hospital representatives. The center provides the team the opportunity to discuss and make decisions about the investigation, treatment, and prosecution of child abuse cases. The team also works to prevent further victimization of children. This combined wisdom and professional knowledge ensures that the systems designed to protect children are able to do so, more timely and effectively. The Center provides tools for appropriate and successful handling of child victims of abuse through the criminal justice system. Holding perpetrators of abuse accountable to the victim and the community, along wiht rehabilitative support to the victim. The Advocacy Center offers the community many benefits, including more immediate follow up of child abuse cases, more efficient medical and mental health referrals, a reduction in the number of child victim interviews, increase successful prosecution and consistent support for child victims and supportive adults. At the Child Advocacy Center, the child's needs come first.
