Mission Statement

Horse Power for Life is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization (EIN #26-0812311) in Chester County, whose mission is to improve the physical and emotional quality of life for individuals affected by cancer by providing a 16 week educational and recreational horsemanship program. Our goal is to help families living with cancer focus on their minds, bodies, and souls, rather than the disease while learning about horses in an atmosphere of professionalism, teamwork, and fun.

Description

The core of our program is a 16 week course, made up of weekly 90 minute sessions which provide professional horsemanship instruction for men, women, and children. Led by certified therapeutic instructor, Barbara Rosoff, the program guides students through all aspects of horse care, from basic grooming to leading horses, to riding.

We believe that it is essential for a family member of cancer patients/survivors to be invited to participate in our program since the effects of cancer diagnoses can reach beyond the individual with the disease. In addition, we are committed to providing our program at a very low cost to participants in order to involve families from all backgrounds.

Testimonial/Response to our program: “Dear Shiree and Barbara, Matt and I want to thank you both for the wonderful work you are both doing through Horse Power for Life. Our daughters, Brynn and Paige, started your program in April 2008 and completed the program in August, 2008. Through the program, we saw tremendous growth in Brynn as a leukemia patient and now leukemia survivor. Many of her fears have diminished and she has a confidence that she did not have before she started the program. And for Paige, it was so good to see her be part of something that was just about her when she was riding Detour. She loves animals and the structure was good for her as our free spirit. Our entire family has gained strength from the program by being around the horses and by meeting so many wonderful people. We will continue to support Horse Power through your fund raisers and by word of mouth. You both, and Detour, will always hold a special place in our hearts.” ~The Henry Family
