Mission Statement

We are a community of North Americans living in solidarity with Latin American migrants and refugees. Our mission is one of living simply and communally with multicultural volunteers and guests, helping those most in need in East Oakland community, supporting an extended community of former guests in keeping itself organized and healthy, and advocating for the elimination of unjust structures locally and globally.

Description

The Oakland Catholic Worker has served as a transitional shelter and accompaniment program for Latin American refugees since 1986. In addition we serve our East Oakland neighbors in need by offering:

  • English as a Second Language classes
  • Hot food and weekly grocery distribution programs
  • A gathering space for the religious and cultural needs of our extended community
  • Advocacy promoting change with those marginalized by existing unjust political, social and economic structures

This organization is helping hundreds of people and bringing smiles to their faces. I'd love to make others happy with helping others.

when i got there there was no type of instructions or welcoming. There was no one that even introduced themselves and what we were going to be doing. Not just that the entire time all i received were dirty looks and not one single smile.
