Mission Statement

Mission Statement: Hospice is dedicated to the provision of palliative care to the terminally ill who (1) meet the eligibility requirements and (2) elect to receive this service. This care is aimed at the reduction of physical, psychological, social and spiritual suffering of the patients and their families before, during and after death. The central Hospice goals are to help the terminally ill persons to live out their remaining days with the greatest possible freedom from pain and anxiety; to assist them in maintaining their personal sense of self worth and to contribute to their quality of life. These goals are accomplished through an interdisciplinary team that provides nursing, medical, social, emotional and spiritual support under professional guidance and supervision. At the heart of the program are the volunteers who give their time and love, either directly to the patients and families, or for their many other supportive services.

Description

Volunteers serve as a member of the hospice team by sharing skills and interests in a manner that provides comfort and enriches the quality of life for those served. Our volunteers serve on a regular scheduled basis, at their convenience, and may provide the following:

  • Support services, companionship, friendly visiting, active listening, bedside sitting, letter writing.
  • Sharing hobbies and special interests - reading, gardening, listening to music, sports, travel crafts, etc.
  • Homemaking tasks - light house keeping , dishes, laundry, meal preparation.
  • Providing respite and support for family members in partnership with friendship in a time of need.
