Purple Ribbon Council to Cut Out Domestic Abuse

Domestic abuse is an ugly issue with a heavy stigma. It impacts people of all ages, genders and backgrounds and knows no boundaries. Chances are someone you know has been a victim of domestic abuse as an adult or as a child. It happens in college dorm rooms, escalates silently behind the façade of beautiful homes, follows children to school, impacts productivity in the workplace, has pervasive and complicated root causes and sometimes leads to death. Domestic abuse is a silent epidemic because there are countless numbers of victims who do not report or seek help and because people are still uncomfortable talking about it. Chances are you or someone you know has been a victim of domestic abuse or experienced abuse as a child.

PREVENTION IS THE CURE!

Mission Statement

MISSION

To raise awareness and engage everyday people in the prevention of domestic abuse.

VISION

To Break the Silence, Break the Cycle, Save Lives.

GOALS

1. BRIDGE THE PREVENTION GAP

Where our counterpart organizations in domestic abuse response channel their resources to institutional, system, shelter and public-policy based advocacy, we bridge their important work by going deep into communities to leverage the assets of everyday people in large-scale grassroots PREVENTION awareness, education, outreach and advocacy. Our end goal is to prevent domestic abuse before it starts and interrupt the cycle before it is too late.

2. COLLABORATE

Purple Ribbon Council embraces and collaborates with the "natural helpers" (parents, families, friends, co-workers, teachers, salon professionals, volunteers, fitness instructors, and concerned citizens) to help break the silence, break the cycle, save lives.

3. INSPIRE

We believe people are the solution to preventing domestic abuse, not costly programs. Therefore, we inspire everyday people to advocate and take action for prevention.

4. INVEST

Purple Ribbon Council invests in primary and secondary PREVENTION, ultimately benefiting children, teens, adults, families, communities, and society as a whole.

5. EMPOWER

Purple Ribbon Council’s goal is empowerment, not services. To meet this goal we build communities of passionate people who advocate for and help us reach out to:

  • Children orphaned by domestic violence homicide and their caregivers.
  • Children who witness abuse at home
  • Teens
  • Women who do not access shelter or traditional services
  • Men who do not access services

6. MOBILIZE

All of our approaches are deliberately turn-key to encourage and mobilize people everywhere to become catalysts for prevention and positive social change in their relationships, schools, neighborhoods and communities.

HOW WE HELP

Who We Reach Out To

Purple Ribbon Council’s goal is empowerment, not one-size-fits-all services. To meet this goal, we build communities of passionate people who advocate for and help us reach out to the most silent and under-reported victims:

  • Children orphaned by domestic violence homicide and their caregivers
  • Children who witness abuse at home
  • Teens
  • Women who do not access shelter or traditional services
  • Men who do not access services

We aim to benefit EVERYONE through prevention efforts. By engaging "natural helpers" such as family, friends, co-workers and community members we are Breaking the Silence, Breaking the Cycle and Saving Lives.

What We Do

Our work is focused in four hallmark areas:

Awareness & Cause Marketing

Restorative Interventions

Prevention Education

Community Engagement
