ProduceGood has exciting news...we are launching a NEW program! You will be helping us divert food from landfills to feed those in need by sorting through and rescuing fresh produce that cannot be sold at Jimbo's in Carlsbad. We are seeking to build a team of 4-6 volunteers from Carlsbad, Encinitas, and the surrounding area to help us launch this exciting new program. Prior to the volunteer's arrival, Jimbo's staff will set aside fruits and vegetables unfit for sale (partially damaged, cosmetic issues, "ugly", etc.). Volunteers will sort edible produce from produce that will be sent to compost. Volunteers will then transport the rescued bounty (~200 pounds) to a local feeding agency. To sign up for volunteer shifts, please visit our VolunteerHub page directly, and sign up for the days and times that work best for you. https://producegood.volunteerhub.com

Join us on a local North County grove from 9am - 12pm on Saturday mornings January - August. This volunteer opportunity is for people of all ages and gets you out with the butterflies and bees, picking citrus by hand or with a picker pole and preparing it for transport. This position is influential in actively picking healthy produce for San Diego’s food insecure and preventing this excess from going to waste. Volunteers learn how to utilize picking poles to reach fruit and become part of produce rescue through community-driven work. This position allows volunteers to experience firsthand the tactical aspect of food recovery principles and become ambassadors of sustainable food systems. Sign up directly on our website https://producegood.volunteerhub.com/. Once you sign up as a volunteer you can register for available events in our calendar. Choose a date and location that works best for you. Please note you must register and sign a waiver to join us. Sharing has never been sweeter! For more information, please contact our Community Orchard Program Lead, Shannon, at producegood.shannon@gmail.com.

Are you a natural leader? Are you passionate about food recovery, preventing waste and building community while doing so, then you are a great fit to become a Hillcrest Market Boss with ProduceGood's MarketShare program! Support ProduceGood's mission to reduce waste and hunger in one sweet step. Be the volunteer lead that guides 3 other volunteers through the process of preventing food waste at the Hillcrest Farmers Market. You will be engaging with farmers at the Hillcrest Market, and checking in with how much excess produce they have remaining and are willing to donate for the day. Then, you would be responsible for weighing and tracking the produce donated by various farmers. Afterwards, you would help load rescued produce into volunteer drivers' vehicles - who will be transporting donated produce directly to agencies who help to feed the 1 in 4 San Diegans who are currently food insecure. Training and supplies provided by ProduceGood. You can choose to take on as many or as little shifts as you want per month - no time commitment required.
