Mission Statement
Essex Youth Theater is a not-for-profit performing arts school for children ages 4-12. We offer a unique program, utilizing custom-written scripts that give equal roles to all students. Class size is kept small, so that each child may receive ample individual attention. Sessions also incorporate acting exercises, theater games and improvsations that help students express their imaginations and develop dramatic skills. Every semester culminates with each class performing their own full-scale musical production.
Essex Youth Theater strives to provide a supportive, nurturing environment where every student can blossom, in which self-esteem and self-confidence are emphasized. Each child is gently encouraged to explore their natural creativity while building theatrical skills in a non-competitive setting. Essex Youth Theater also promotes personal discipline in each individual and trust and cooperation among class members. Finally, through our productions, we endeavor to give our students the opportunity to experience that indescribable sense of accomplishment that comes through the joy of performing. At Essex Youth Theater, every child is a star.

OUR PROGRAM
Essex Youth Theater is a specialized program that uses custom-written scripts to guarantee equal roles for a specific number of students. Class size is kept small, with each child receiving lots of individual attention. And every semester culminates in a full-scale musical production.
Each class also incorporates acting exercises, theater games and improvs
that help students express their creativity and develop dramatic skills.
The atmosphere is supportive and nurturing, with an emphasis on
self-esteem and fun learning.
OUR TEACHERS
Our teachers are professional directors specially trained in children's theater. Skilled artists, they bring many years of experience, as well as a love and understanding of young actors, to every class.
OUR FACILITY
We are in residence at The Studio Playhouse, 14 Alvin Place in Upper Montclair, (right by the A&P on Valley Road). The big, beautiful Playhouse stage gives our students a performance to remember! Additional classes as well as our Summer Theater Day Camp Comedies are held at the Montclair Operetta Club, 494 Valley Road, Upper Montclair, (corner of Alvin Place).
