Mission Statement
The Menokin Foundation's Mission is to preserve and interpret the home and life of patriot Francis Lightfoot Lee, as a focus for better understanding the fields of history, architecture, archaeology, ecology and other areas of the humanities, by developing innovative scholarship and new practices in conservation.
Description
Menokin is the most engaging preservation project in America.
If Menokin is gone, we lose a National Historic Landmark - a place that possesses exceptional value in interpreting the heritage of the United States. We lost the opportunity to discover what this house and property can teach us now and into the future.
Francis Lightfoot Lee was one of Virginia's seven signers of the Declaration of Independence. Menokin is the only surviving house of the Virginia signers of the Declaration of Independence that is not fully protected and saved. Losing Menokin would mean the loss of a great American landmark; yet, the prospect of that loss is imminent.
