Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation manages 3.1 miles of trails around the Agua Hedionda Lagoon. We need committed volunteers who will weekly or every other week help us monitor and restore the trails. This can be done at your own time, and schedule, and reports to the Volunteer Coordinator as well as the Director of Trails and Conservation. Job duties include: painting over graffiti, removing graffiti, picking up trash, picking up litter, small restoration/maintenance support, filling in holes and ruts, removing overgrowth amongst other duties. Can be as little as 30 minutes a week, or if action needs to be taken, a bit longer. We are trying to build a robust community who helps to keep our trails safe and accessible, and curb bad behavior by having a consistent presence. Perks include: being outside, helping our natural landscapes, AHLF SWAG, complimentary coffee at the DC, annual volunteer appreciation event. Will you join this movement?

We are looking for some volunteers to care for our chickens here at the Discovery Center. These chickens are a big part of our Compost, Climbing, and Chicken Courtyard, where we teach our visitors and students about composting to help our environment. These chickens need daily care and tending to. Duties would include feeding them, changing their water, cleaning out their coop and run, collecting eggs, socialization and more. The current shifts available are the following Chicken Care Available Shifts Wednesday PM Saturday PM On Call Monday-Sunday AM/PM

The Discovery Center is the new home of four native Birds of Prey. These wild animals require specialized care and training for educational programming. We are looking for interns that can make a long-term commitment to the care of these birds and eventually educate students on their species and importance to our community. This is a 12 month internship broken down into 3 month blocks. Months 1-3: Volunteering at our Discovery Center and learning more about our mission Months 3-6: Raptor care such as feeding and habitat cleaning. Learning more about the birds and their species Months 6-9: Learning how to properly handling the birds and practicing public speaking skills Months 9-12: Giving educational presentations to school groups with the birds on-site and at outreach events There will be interviews between each stage to proceed in this program. A long-term commitment is necessary.
