Bereavement Volunteer

Losing a loved one isn’t easy to prepare for or accept. Grieving is a healthy and normal response to loss. We provide support through the bereavement process and can help individuals and families heal. Bereavement refers to a period of mourning before, during and after a loss, and grief in reaction to the loss. Bereavement care is an important part of the hospice experience and includes anticipating grief reactions and providing ongoing support for the bereaved. UR Medicine Home Care offers our Bereavement program to the community at no charge. UR Medicine Home Care Hospice is seeking volunteers to provide bereavement peer support to groups and individuals. Reiki, Healing Touch

The practice of Reiki is beautifully compatible with the philosophy of hospice care. Reiki therapists can help ease the journey for those at the end of life. URMC Hospice has patients receiving hospice care in their homes - wherever that may be - a private home, senior living and assisted living homes, nursing homes and hospitals. Pet Therapy Volunteers for Hospice Patients

A visit from a Pet Therapist and their dog creates a variety of benefits to hospice patients, and often their families as well, by providing comfort, love and companionship. Whether your meeting brings joy and reduces feelings of isolation, anxiety, and depression or helps to take a patient's mind off their aches and pains the visit makes an important impact. We would love to add more Pet Therapists to our team to visit patients in their home, nursing homes, and hospitals. Your pet must be a certified therapy pet with RocDog or TDI.
