ORGANIZATIONAL INFORMATION:
The Durango Educational Alliance for Multicultural Achievement (Del Alma translates to "The Soul" or "The Essence") was founded in 1995 and became an independent 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization in 1997, with the purpose of increasing the graduation rate of low-income, underserved Hispanic/Latino children by providing after-school tutoring for elementary students in a predominantly Latino neighborhood in Durango, Colorado.
The Vision of Del Alma is to create a community that respects, values, supports and empowers all of its young people to be actively contributing members of the community. The mission of Del Alma is to promote cultural competence and educational excellence for multicultural youth. We do this by providing after-school literacy education, cultural competency activities, Folklórico dance instruction, and anti-bias education.
Del Alma actively serves all needy children in La Plata County, with special outreach to American Indian and Latino youth.
