Mission Statement

The Des Moines Water Works Park Foundation follows three guiding principles to fulfill its mission of supporting Clean Water for our community.

  1. Conservation. The Foundation is committed to executing the Master Plan to protect and expand the Park’s current natural water filtration system, as well as lands classified as "wild," thus enhancing the power of the Park to help clean our water and protect the natural ecosystem of the park for years to come.
  2. Recreation. The Foundation is committed to enhancing the parts of the park currently enjoyed by the public and adding integrated recreation features to those areas, such as "The Circuit" and the Trails Hub to bringing more people to the Park to interact with nature and Clean Water education.
  3. Education. The Foundation is committed to providing multiple touch points throughout the Park to educate the public on the importance of clean water, the function the park plays in cleaning our water and "everyday" ways the public can engage in helping to preserve water resources for generations to come.

These guiding principles work in tandem with each other each, feeding into the next, to create a pipeline that supports the ultimate goal of preserving Clean Water for our community.

Description

LAUNCH your summer at Water Works Park! LAUNCH is a new annual and FREE event aimed at drawing new and current users into Water Works Park to explore its many recreational opportunities. Join us in the Park Saturday, May 30th from 11am-6pm for loads of fun and discovery.

LAUNCH will center around "The Village" in the Denman Woods area of the Park, just north of the pedestrian bridge along the Bill Riley trail (check out the maps section on this web site). The Village will host food trucks, Iowa Craft Beer Tent, user group booths and entertainment stage featuring the James Biehn Band. From the village attendees can join park user groups in other parts of the park for events whether it be an ultimate Frisbee game, a birding tour, walking/running tour, paddling, cycling, yoga, drum circle, kite flying, etc. We will have a posted schedule in advance and in The Village. Activities and entertainment will run the entirety of the event.
