Mission Statement

The Education, Environment, and Community Outreach (EECO) program engages 20 AmeriCorps members who support public schools, the NJ School of Conservation, community- and faith-based organizations, non-profits, and other civic organizations in Northern New Jersey.

Description

During the two-year grant period (2014-15), EECO will:

1) Provide educational support as part of a university-assisted community school initiative using evidenced-based instructional programs to improve the literacy and math achievement of K-8th grade students in Orange public Schools;

2) Teach environmental education (e.g. Forest Ecology, Team Building, Conservation Photography, History of Natural Resource Use, etc) to middle school students, attending the NJ school of Conservation;

3) Develop an effective training and development program to support AmeriCorps members in the delivery of instructional and educational programming and to advance their civic and professional development;

4) Implement a powerful volunteer generation program to recruit, train, place, and coordinate 2,200 University students, faculty, staff, and alumni to make positive contributions toward addressing issues of importance to cities and towns in the region.
