Classes are 1 hour in duration and held at St Peters Church in Ferguson. Each class is part of a six week series that teaches the foundation of wellness to underserved community members in North St Louis and North County. Volunteer for one class or commit to a 6-week series. The Fit and Food Connection is a non-profit organization serving our neighbors in the St. Louis community. We provide wellness offerings to low-income families and empower our clients to get healthy through our five free fitness and nutrition programs. We are currently seeking a volunteer registered nurse who will work 1-6 hours per month to support the wellness team in collecting client health statistics for data collection and education. This volunteer will: Support group and one-on-one health screening events. Plan and execute taking wellness stats on clients including weight, blood pressure, BMI, cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood sugars. Collect information that will help track our clients’ success and help secure grant funding to positively impact more lives. Some other areas of volunteer nursing support may include follow-up communications with clients after a health screening event to discuss results and connecting them to necessary Fit & Food resources or behind-the-scenes tasks to further The Fit and Food Connection’s life-changing wellness mission. Activities include: Attending in-person and/or virtual programs, fitness classes, and nutrition classes Help participants with sign-in and track program attendance Assist the instructor to ensure programs run smoothly Take photos and/or video for the organization to use in marketing and on social media Bring all necessary sign-in sheets and marketing materials to each program Answers questions about The Fit and Food Connection for participating attendees Ideal candidates have a flexible schedule, access to transportation, and can commit to regular attendance at programs. Volunteers pickup and deliver on the first and third Sundays of the month. Food Sorting: Food is sorted on Sunday at 12:00pm at our food pantry in North County. Food Delivery: On Sundays, volunteers pickup packed groceries at our food pantry in North County at 1:30pm and deliver the food in their own personal vehicles to our clients. Routes are provided prior to arrival and families are expecting their arrival. Drivers will call the contact on their route with an estimated time of arrival. Time will be spent with the client in person and via the phone and/or zoom.
